Hmmmm... no contact from P&L as of yet. On Saturday, left them a VM and sent them an email explaining the situation. Called etrailer to let them know what happened and they will be following up with P&L.

Not as critical anymore since I was able to jimmy open my tonneau cover with a long screwdriver and get access to the bed. Then removed the plastic tailgate plate and released the lock in the P&L handle. Ended up removing the whole stupid thing and reinstalled the OEM handle and called it a day.

I'll give P&L another shot if they bother to call/email me since it may just be a bad lot of codable locks. We'll see what happens.

Got in contact with lead tech guy, Jason from P&L and he was pretty helpful. He is going to overnight a new unit to me and have me send mine back to them for inspection. He mentioned that they've sold thousands of these already and only a small handful are reporting problems. So customer service (if you can find them) is pretty good.

Just received my replacement unit today, hopefully it's problem free this time! Another positive word for P&L customer service.

Mine just locked up as well after about a month. Any tips on getting the back tailgate cover off when the tailgate is in the up position? It looks like it is still blocked in even after I take off the fastners?

There's some "pins" that go through the skin to lock it into position.
It needs to lift away from the gate, then up.

Can you get the screws out that are across the bottom? I thought they were hidden by the bed.

Only way might be to simply cut an access panel in front of the latch, then use some "J" nuts to secure a replacement panel.

Received my replacement from Pop N Lock today - so on a positive note great response to customer claims. I went the route of removing the top tailgate cover then using screwdriver to push the mechanism holding the rods which released the tailgate.

The replacement lock mechanism seems stronger... hopefully replacement will last longer than a couple months!
