Parking Break Seized pretty bad...

    Well, since I just got my 95 taco I decided to pull it into the heated shop and do some maintenance.

    Oil and filter was super simple. Changed the transfer case oil. Wanted to do the diffs but the rear diff filler bolt was stripped just enough so I couldn't get it off.

    The front didn't seem like a 10mm hex at all. Seemed bigger. So I'll save those for warmer weather.

    Anyhow, my parking brake wouldn't even pull out. So I looked under the drivers seat and see the spring and everything is totally seized. I soak it with PB and whack it... won't budge. Just bends.

    So I check the rear lever too by the passenger rear tire. Seized as well. And not even hooked up to the cable. :)

    I wouldn't mind getting it working, but I'm afraid I'll probably need to purchase the two mechanisms to get it working.

    Or, can I take them apart and use a little elbow grease to get them unseized? What's the best option? I don't want to put too much money into this vehicle as it's just a beater for me. :)

    You can buy both bell cranks new from Rockauto for $30 or so. All new hardware. Boots too. I also went ahead and replaced both cables too. I think they were 30 and 80 dollars? I could be wrong a bit on the prices for the cables.
    I keep the boots packed full of marine grade grease to keep water out now.

    Hey, off topic, but when you do the front diff, make sure you use an actual hex socket instead of an allen key. You'll be glad you did.

    I have hex sockets.. the 10mm seems way too small for the front diff. but, my front diffs are covered in layers of oil/grit/grime so maybe there's a larger indentation before the 10mm one. I couldn't even find the filler it was so grimy. ya, I have a couple half shafts to replace and probably some front diff seals. :)

    mkatts or anyone.. do you have part numbers for the emergency brake parts? I couldn't find the levers online but I found a bunch of cables and not sure which ones I need.

    By the way, I had to search under 2000 tacoma 2.7 4x4 to find the Bell Cranks. They were not listed for 95. But the were an exact match.
