Don't worry, I tend to have everything thought out well in advance and drawn up on paper before I do ANYTHING.

Those tanks would work. Its all about the regulator though. That is where the quality vs money comes in. Some will freeze while airing up your tires if you arent careful.

I paid around $85 for a used aluminum tank from my fire department supply store. I would stay away from the steel tanks for weight savings alone. The expensive part is the valve. You have two choices there, or powertank.

You're looking at $100 for the tank, $135 for the valve, and then you have to buy a mount, air line, air chuck, tank boot, etc. It's almost cheaper to buy a complete setup from wheelers.

 

thank you for the insight, you are one of many that have stressed that topic to me, dont plan on cheaping out on that part of it. thought though i might be able to skim on price for the tank to be able to afford the regulator sooner.

sadly i have everything already except the tank and regulator. i have a 10lb mount, spare coil line, chucks, boot and all that good stuff. just gotta get a tank and then decide on the gauge. but thanks again for the heads up!!!

 

1- definitely an aluminum tank
2- if buying new, you'll most likely get a better deal by purchasing an all included kit, vs. buying parts separately
3- your valve/regulator will ice up. A quality valve and regulator will function properly/acurately after icing up
4- there are two ways to determine how full your tank is:
---1) weigh it full and weight it at the current level and take the difference
---2) get a regulator with a "tank pressure" gauge on it. found out over the weekend, that the tank pressure gauge on the power tank setups are very acurate. this will cost more, but adds a level of convenience.
5- budget for how you will store/mount it. this is not something you want to have floating around in the back seat or rolling around in the bed.

 

already have this to use... im thinking it should work just fine, even though it was originally purchased for a fire extinguisher, im thinking it should still hold it just fine.

that mount will work well. $15 cheaper than the aluminum power tank mount too.

 

Free for me, so i guess $46 cheaper than the one i linked!!!

 

Tried the new rear view camera today and removed the head unit. there is a video 1 input and it worked, but the image was mirrored and there is no option to correct it on the head unit. So i'll have to find a camera that is designed for front facing I suppose.

well shoot, that's unfortunate.

try searching for a security camera instead or a backup camera. the security cameras are typically standard display, instead of the mirrored image that backup cameras have built in.

I have an idea… I will buy all the necessary toys to hook up a camera system on my truck. Colin and Nathan can come over and install it. I'll supply the beer!

the hardest part is figuring out where you want the monitor. the wiring itself is cake. figure out that first part and give me a holler.

 

Alright I have it figured out. Now PM me a list (preferably with links) of everything I need. I will start acquiring this week sometime.

 

I'm still leaning towards a replacement mirror with a larger screen than stock instead of the larger display mounted on the dash. Too many ideas bouncing around in my head at the moment.

 

for a setup like mine, you'll need a monitor, cameras, and switching unit. i'll dig up the links tomorrow for ya.

 

more ideas are more betterer.
