Have a set of silver Konig countersteers on the way. Decided on silver since my truck is the silver streak color.

Haven't decided on the size of tires yet but mine will typically be a pavement pounder with limited offroad use. Have a Husky TE510 for my dirt fix and will use the truck to transport it.

Thinking about the Michelin LTX MS tire in 265/75-16 which specs out at 39lbs and has a 31.6 diameter. Stock Dunny diameter is 30.5. So roughly a 3.6% increase in diameter. My speedo reads 80 and the actual per GPS right now is 75 mph... 5 mph fast.

My stock tire/steel wheel weighs 59.5 lbs on the scale and the stock Dunny is speced at 34 lbs, therefore the stock steel wheel weighs ~ 25.5 lbs.

The new Konig and 265/75-16 Michelin will tip the scales at 57 lbs, 2.5lbs lighter than stock.

Wondering if the 2nd gen 2.7L 4 banger with manual can push this new larger diameter but lighter tire/wheel package as easy as the stock tires/wheels?? Or do I need to stay with a stock size diameter? My thoughts were if I decreased the tire/wheel weight I could increase the diameter slightly and not have it impact the performance or MPG of the 4 banger. Both the Michelin LTX and Toyo Proxes LT II are tires that exhibit very low rolling resistance.

Other stock diameter tires in consideration:

Michelin LTX MS 265/70-16 41 lbs 30.7 diameter
Michelin LTX MS 245-75-16 35 lbs 30.4 diameter
Toyo Proxes LT II 265/70-16 33.7 lbs 30.6 diameter

I don't know if anybody can say for sure if the larger but lighter tire will be the same as the stock tires.

I wouldn't worry too much about running a 265/75/16. I have them on my '09 4 banger reg cab 4x4 and it moves fine. I would stay away from Toyos Open Country MT's thought because those tires weight a fuggin' ton compaired to other brands. With the 265's I have checked my speedo on several "your speed is" radar things and all of them said my actual speed was 2MPH lower than indicated on the speedo. The 32's actually made my speedo more accurate than stock.

Of course you could just go with a 265/70/16 and have the same width of the 32's without having to worry about any power loss.

I had the stamped steel with stock 265/75r16 tires on my 2.7L.
I bought some procomps 7089s with general grabber AT2 285/75r16.
i dont know the exact weight before/after but it was close to stock, but a little heavier. of course.
i can notice a small difference in power loss, but not bad at all.
i have an automatic transmission as well. just be sure to change your oil more often as your engine is strained and you should be ok. maybe try a synthetic or synthetic blend.

i think theyll do ok , but they'll accelerate slower, like dropping a gear ratio or a bit less, 2 lb lighter on something like truck might not change things much.

I'm considering going to 235/75 .. down 1. Comes down to chains n such. But i also Dont want to play speedometer games on an already "slow" speedo.

Per my GPS the speedometer reads 5 mph fast at 70 mph and the odometer reads 3% fast (1/2 mile every 15 miles).

This was with stock 245/75-16 Dunlops tires with 5/32 tread depth remaining.

Since I originated this thread I'd like to let everything know what I've purchased.

Decided to go with the 265/70-16 Michelin LTX MS tires on the 16" Konig Countersteers. Before my tire purchased I weighed the actual Michelin tires and found that the specs on Tire Rack are wrong. The 245/75-16 weighed 35 lbs and the 265/70-16 weighed 38 lbs (3lbs less than so called spec). Since the 265 was only 3lbs more than the 245 I went with them.

My complete wheel package was 57 lbs (wheel/tire), ~3 lbs less than stock.

Will have photos and a review after some drive time.

just took a few so far when getting the tires installed..

My solution to the TPMS from the steel wheel which would not fit the Konig wheels.

Those Konig and michelins are a nice lookin setup! Amazing what photo # does, now I'm wondering if my tpms in stock steel will fit stock aluminum wheels now. I'm buying a set of sr5 wheels from another member , I never considered tpms not transferring directly.

The angle of the valve stem exiting the TPMS from the steelies is different than the alloy wheel sensor. Betting you will have to get clever with an alternative like I did.

Will try to get some more photos of the truck with the new shoes when I get a chance. One thing for sure is that it does look 100% better than stock.

Ouch maybe I'll get lucky and a plastic part can convert it. Or Ill entertain disabling tpms.

Sharp lookng combo! They have good proportions under the fender, not too wide not too tall or skinny for that matter. My tire searching has been around the 75% sidewall, think ill widen it to 70s also. Goin for a snow/ice set, but good on gravel n such.

One thing to consider is also rolling resistance... lighter weight will get you out the hole faster, but if the tires are wider and a lot stickier than stock (and what tire ISNT stickier than the stock ones!) it still may hurt MPG a bit.

Well worth it, though - looks way better!

After a few tanks of fuel I'll report any changes in mpg.. so far on the first tank with the new tires it is looking pretty good according to the gauge and miles driven..

As for cornering, the stock dunny's begged for mercy loudly when doing exit ramps, was commical.. these new michelins certainly provide much superior grip.. I was very surprised at cornering speeds and I do drive a small sports car also so I know what can be acheived with DOT race rubber ..These Michelins are impressive and the cornering ability for a 4x4 truck is beyond my expectations. It would run circles around my 2000 Tacoma with the same tires.
