I seated the coil properly and the coil seat is flat to the shock but the shock doesn't go straight up through the coil, is this an issue?

it doesn't look like a top plate is installed. that spring isn't under any compression is it?

if YES to those questions, you have a problem.
if NO, you don't. install the top plate and continue on.

    Top hat not on,

I thought I had an issue with the spring-this is my first time doing any suspension work so I am pretty ignorant on these issues.

Get the top hat on, that will center the spring out.

It’s not uncommen for an assembled strut to look like this, but it is a bit extreme and shouldn't be that bad. When assembled the shock can be closer to one side (not completely centered) due to the design of the coil and the give of the bushings (top and bottom ones). It’s also not uncommon for the top hat to be crooked as well. However when the assembled strut is mounted to the truck everything should straighten out with the weight of the truck and the shock tower forcing the top hat to be level.

    Hope this helps

Get the top hat on mate and it should centre it out. If the problem persists, please feel free to contact us (Via PM) and we'd be happy to discuss.
