Hey everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. I wanted to show you guys some mods I've done to my truck lately!

After weeks of research I decided on this combo. I've seen one other person on this forum who has the same setup, no lift and no rub, so I pulled the trigger on the Cooper tires. These tires look superb, the stance on my Taco has become unbelievably aggressive but let me tell you.....they rub like MAD even with the front flaps off.

This is my truck before i drove it off the lot. 2013 SR5 Access Cab in Nautical Blue.

    Screen Shot 2014-04-01 at 12.01.45 AM.jpg

Couple months later: 25% tint all around, Smittybilt bull bar, blacked out tail lights, and black Plasti-dipped front grille. I also added two Kicker KS69 speakers to replace those pathetic ones Toyota supplies.

    IMG_20140326_114743.jpg

This is my Taco now with the new rims and tires. Like I said, i absolutely love the stance. Drives great and no road noise.

    IMG_20140331_175619.jpg

The tires stick out about 2-2 1/4 inches from the fenders.

    IMG_20140331_175141.jpg

After spending an hour cleaning her, I could see why removing the mudflaps was a bad idea...
    IMG_20140331_200610.jpg

I'm searching for a lift kit now and I'm probably gonna go with Bilstein's all around with stock coils because I'm broke for the time being. The sound my fender makes when the tires rubs is horrid, and I'd rather lift it properly than butcher my fender and tire well.

I highly recommend this combo...and I got em just in time to finally start enjoying the summer season in Toronto :D Let me know what you guys think!

Looks great. I used to have the XD monsters too, I loved the way they looked.

BTW you may want to look into the Toytec coils too, I had those paired w/ 5100's set @ 0" and it drove great.

Looks good! Apparent doesn't sound that good though. I wonder if your bull bar weighs just enough to make the rub worse? Either way good looking ride. :D

I've been searching countless online sites to find something thats even reasonably priced. Being in Canada, getting Bilstein shocks (no coils) with a TSB AAL shipped/taxed/imported from Toytec is coming up to $834 CAD!! That's ridiculous.

Gheeze...I never thought of that. It very well could be because of the bull bar. The tire only catches onto the inner plastic of the fender when i'm going under 10km/h and slightly turning the wheel so I'm guessing that extra 20-30 pounds really does make a difference.

nah a bull bar wouldnt make a difference. you just need a lift with that tire setup. You will only notice a drop when you place a 150lb+ plate bumper on

This might be silly question, but could i buy bilstiens all around and use stock coils and not get a new AAL? The front Billy's get 0-2.5 lift while it says the rear ones get 1 inch.

Nice looking taco.. You could do the billys and add a leaf to get the lift your looking for. may help with the rub depending on where your rubbing

Edit: didnt see that you didn't want the Add a leaf. I don't think the billy's in the rear will give lift. They are just a shock absorber. The only reason they give lift in the front is because they compress the spring which gives the lift.

You may get 1inch of extra travel with the billys in the rear, so more droop.

Thanks man! Hmm interesting...recommend a Canadian based site that could ship me an AAL? AFAIK I have a Taco with 3 leafs and 1 overload so I would need the 1.5 inch TSB AAL.

Also, take a look at this: 5100 Series 3-4" Lift Rear. Can you explain why it claims the lift part? Or does it mean if I had AAL's equal to 3-4 inches, the shock could support it without the droop? I'm very new to all of this so bear with me!

Thanks buddy! I find every reason to go out for a drive now even if it rubs like hell!

I believe are Canadian trucks already come with the Tsb leafs. The American guys I believe only have 2 leafs and a overload. Only place I can recommend, since its where I ordered my stuff is CT motorsports in Mississauga. Lots of guys from the GTA talk good things about the place. Give them a call, and Ski (the owner) may be able to help you figure something out. He can also order stuff from and other places, just double check on shipping. Its still not as bad as if you were to order it to your house..

I think why they are saying the shocks equal to 3-4 inches of lift is because that's what they allow. For instance the stock shock abosrbers may only be able to give X amount of travel. When you put on a new leaf pack, you get lift, but the old shock abosrbers don't allow you to use the droop (the axle moving downwards) that the leaf pack/lift gives you. So you would have to get a longer shock absorber, thus longer shock absorbers. Hope that makes sense. My terminology is off, but hopefully that helps.

Lol and no worries about being new to this stuff. I learned as I went, and I am still learning. Got to start somewhere.

Yeah your explanation makes perfect sense. But if I go with the 1.5 inch AAL, would i be better off with the Billy's that provide 1" extra of rear lift or should I go with 3-4"?

I'll give CT motorsports a call tmrw, maybe I'll drive over and figure out a solution.

Also, block spacers or AAL's for the rear? These blocks are coming up to $360 for two . While the 1.5 inch TSB AAL's from Toyotec are coming up to $390 shipped. I don't tow at all but occasionally haul kitchen cabinets at work. The most I'm carrying would be ~200lbs

I would just get the 1" billy's since they will only be .5" off from the leafs. Not to sure if you are going offroad or not, but really it only matters when wheel travel is important. Since your sticking with the stock leafs, I don't think your going to limit your travel drastically with the 1" billy's, to make the 3-4" billy's worth it. If this is for just better driving performance, or to get the tires to fit better, I wouldn't worry too much. I think the billy's you were looking at were the extended length ones. Not 100% sure.

If your going to make the trip out to CT motorsports, definitely call first, as I know they have some weird hours when the trails open.
Also, if your from Toronto, check out here for a meet and greet. I think the next one is april 27 at square one. good place to ask questions and drool over peoples rigs haha.
