Kase, are you going to use any non destructive test methods as part of these classes?

 

Cool. pay attention to those, since once you get into the field, that's all you'll be using.

any of you guys use one of these in the shop? thinking about getting one but not sure how helpful or accurate it is

One of the boats up here found the rocks a few nights ago; I'll try and post up pics later.

Boat was originally a shrimper in the Gulf of Mexico - definitely shows in the construction. Welding literally looks like it was done by monkeys. Absolutely horrible!

Best one was on the rudder shoe (backbone of the boat).. 1.5" flat stock butt welded, no bevel and a single cold pass!!! Just about every weld on the bottom of the boat snapped when they hit the rocks!

 

Probably all done with a couple car batteries and some 6011 too

 

Nothing wrong with a couple of car batteries...and bailing wire for some trail side repairs

 

I have 4 of them and they are pretty spot on.

 

I use the strong hand ones, best thing ever

that boat got forked up

 

i should have bought one instead of my SQ-12 clamp. Im making 12 5'x10' frames out of 3x6" tubing right now and that would have made this so much easier.

the only strong hand ones i saw were way to expensive!

 

We're in need of 1 helper, 1 fitter, & 1 welder. Tulsa, OK. Climte controlled shop. Mostly stainless.

 

My LWS sells them to me for 60$

 

maybe time for me to pack up and move :]

But really i would love if i could get a welding job set up and do that. Im kinda tired of shop life and fabrication. I just want a tig torch

 

how big is it? i want something at least up to 6"

 

We do quite a bit of mig & flux on stainless. I get to do most of the tig though. I rarely have to mig & flux
