Hey guys I just replaced my rear u joint, and my brand new spider won't take any grease, and neither will the drive shaft spline thing, it just squirts out the sides of the grease gun tip.

I don't want to drive this if I can't get grease in it and risk breaking a 50 dollar oem toyota u joint. Any ideas as to what I can do? Here's a picturea5eha2a7_862f57e51505913c88ff26d5732df8f4965179be.jpg

Are you sure the coupler is good? Or that it's pressed on completely

Thanks, I will try that tomorrow morning. How much pressure should I put on them to test their movement?

Well I just got it back from a shop that only works on driveshafts that put the spider in for me, so I hope it's pressed completely; I guess I really didn't examine it too closely though. I'll have to look tomorrow, how would I know if it wasn't pressed in completely? Movement in both directions was effortless when I had it out.

Oh I meant the coupler on your grease gun. Make sure when you go to attach it to the zerk that it connects completely. If it doesn't connect all the way then it squirts out the grease on the sides. But if the spider is new then Its probably not the zerk, but check it anyway with the screwdriver method mentioned above.

New zerks and possibly worn out gun tip combo.? CH-ina zerks.

It should snap/pop on the zerk when you connect as those little clam shell connector pieces in the tip rotate over the ball of the zerk.

Pull the zerk and try to put some grease thru it. The grease might be getting thru,,just in miniscule amounts due to a manuf flaw.

So long as the tiny sealing ball on the zerk moves down when you press on it, grease should be flowing. Don't stab that tiny sealing ball bearing in the zerk,,just depress or press on it enough to see that it unseats on the zerk using a tiny screwdriver flat tip standard.

Not all zerks are created equal,,in more ways than one.

if its a fairly new grease gun or tip on the hose they can sometimes require a pretty good amount of force to get fully seated on to the zerk and like mentioned above it will "snap" on and kinda lock to the zerk. A worn out tip will not have that snap and won't hold itself on to the zerk, unless extremely worn out these can still be functional you just have to usually hold them just right and keep a good amount of pressure pushing them onto the zerk while pumping.

Are you cleaning (wiping em with a rag) before you try to grease em?

Yeah it's an older grease gun, that was my problem, because of the awkward angle the driveshaft was in I couldn't get enough force on the tip to complete the seal, moving the driveshaft made it work!

Thank you everyone for your help, you guys are always so helpful, I appreciate it!
