You didn't find anything? It may not be much, but in my Hilux spy photos thread , I somewhat described everything related to a future Tacoma in detail. The non-US Hilux was launched in early 2005, which was 6 months after the Tacoma. Yet the next generation model is already in prototype form and due by 2015.

Barring any possible delays, the next Tacoma should be launched for the 2016 model year around October 2015 or as a 2016.5 model in early 2016. TMMTX may soon start retooling. Design work might have been finished late in 2013, meaning almost 6-12 months before road testing can happen.

Yep, as I've already somewhat tried to address this in detail in my Hilux spy shots thread. The current Tacoma was being developed from 1999, body design locked in by 2002, and of course, went on sale in late 2004.
It's still May, which is 15 months to the earliest start of production for a new Tacoma (August 2015 prod./October 2015 sales launch).

The 2016 model year is the most likely possibility, whether it arrives in late 2015 or early 2016. The fact we've seen something and also heard allusions to the Hilux and Tacoma possibly being consolidated, means that testing is in progress. This kind of testing will take less than 1-2 years before launch. Many should remember that not all testing happens out in the open. The 2005 Tacoma was evidence of that.

Like the second generation Tacoma, the third generation developement might be going like this:

Pre-2010: Conceptualizing, ideation, studying new directions, etc.

2010: Design of 2012 2G facelift frozen. Formal start of 3rd Gen Tacoma/Hilux development on 180-based platform.

2011-early 2012: Design departments begin work on 3rd gen Tacoma/Hilux.

Late 2012-Mid 2013: Body design concept theme selection/approval, hiring of new suppliers.

Mid-late 2013: Final Hilux and Tacoma designs frozen. Serial development begins for production commencement in 2015/early 2016. Packaging of vehicle components begins.

    Early-Mid 2014: First prototypes built.

April 22, 2014: 2016 Hilux caught testing in Australia.

    Q3 2015-Q1 2016: Production of 3rd generation Tacoma commences.

The TRD Pro is 100% evidence that there will be no redesign for 2015. The second they even dared to tease that in January, killed any hopes I had for a redesign this year. Besides that, it would've been presented by March and mules would've been running around in early-mid 2013.

I'd say model year 2016, not 2017. I don't think the Tacoma has ever being redesigned after the Hilux. The latter will be out in 2015, so the next Tacoma might be as well. I'm not sure why everyone keeps pointing out 2016 as a 2017 model, as I doubt the current Tacoma will last into mid-late 2015. That's unless Toyota's stupid or meet unfortunate delays.

I agree, the Hilux and Tacoma are very much parallel to each other. I'd say the testing of the 2016 Hilux indicative of a new Tacoma arriving soon.

There was no 2002 facelift, not including a number of updates to the 2003 Tacoma by October 2002.

The Tacoma was launched in February 1995.

    October 1996 brought facelifted 1997 2WD.

In July 1997, all 1998 Tacomas received std. dual airbags and 4WD/PreRunner facelifts.

In October 2000, a heavy facelift for 2001 Tacomas arrived and was followed with minor changes in 2002 for '03 Tacomas.

October 2004, the redesigned 2005 Tacoma went on sale. (Did not "come out in 2005" like many falsely assume)

Around September 2006, minor updates were made to 2007 models(bigger seats, etc).

Circa September 2008, the 2009 models received a refresh.

In September 2010, a new grille was added to 2011 models and production based out of SA, TX.

October 2011 brought a major facelift to the 2012 Tacoma, with minor updates following circa September 2013 for model year 2014.

I'm sorry, but this isn't it. It's not even based on actual design work Toyota would've approved last year. Too many of these phishing/illegitimate car sites keep posting this terrible PS and misleading people.

One is never able to research anything on the next Tacoma or any upcoming vehicle, without the stupid likes of "2015Toyota.com" or "2015future2016cars.com" crap dominating the search results.

The TRD Pro already spelled out that there will be no redesign for 2015 models. People speculated in 2003, that the 2nd gen would be a 2004 model. Besides mules, nothing was heard for a year. Toyota at the last minute in January 2004, shockingly announced the impending reveal of the 2005 model that February. Before that, no one heard nor saw any proof about Toyota's plans, outside of the same 2-door 4Runner mules being winter tested. The Tacoma again was launched in October 2004.

2016 is not the earliest year that one should be seeing a new Tacoma. Maybe model year, but not the calendar year. You could only say that, if Toyota for sure has clarified that they require 3 years in total, to develop and test both mules and production-body prototypes. The Hilux which shares a platform with the current model is already getting redesigned next year, as are the Prado and 4Runner in 2016.

Why would it not be revolutionary? 11 years on the market is too long to not make any moves forward with a successor. Why else would they be taking so long? The Tacoma is somewhat special, in the regard that development of a new generation starts years down the line of the current model and gives breathing room.

1st gen development started in 1989, on the heels of last gen Toyota Pickup coming out in 1988. The 2G Tacoma by comparison entered development over 4 years after the 1995.5 model was launched and didn't force Toyota to start scrambling for new ideas at once. Both the 2nd and 3rd development programs have not been immediate projects like the 1st generation was, within months of it's predecessor coming out.

This in turn has allowed Toyota to revolutionize the product, like they did with the '05 model ('95.5 was an evolution of 1989-1995 Pickup anyway). Moderate, non-intensive levels of research can be done outside of the development program, years in advance. Toyota to able allocate R&D resources properly and to slowly conceptualize the direction of a model's successor.

Other than that, I will agree that pattern wise, it might be evolutionary design wise. It might be revolutionary in terms of content and possibly even size. One can judge the current Hilux and compare it to the new, larger 2016 model in prototype form.

the honest eco owners will tell you the truth. One guy even put 22 mpg next to his odo reading on a thread on another forum. Those Ford guys will get very defensive. They will even defend the Ford badge when they are FoundOnRoadDead
