I read in a post saying the 2.5 inch setting is too high, you lose travel and is not recommended. I'm thinking of getting AAL in the back and hopefuly airbags too. What are you're thoughts? And also where is the best place to get them. I see on eBay someone has the fronts for 88.99 a piece.

I ran 5100s at 2.5 w/AAL for 2 years. It rode pretty good. It's an affordable way to lift and gives better ride quality than using spacers. You do lose some downward wheel travel doing this type of lift though.

I've had positive experiences buying from Downsouth Motorsports, Toytec, and Wheeler's.

Its all based on opinion on how it rides. I haven't had this setup, but many people think it rides quite stiff at 2.5 setting. I plan on putting mine at 1.75 then a 1/4" spacer on both sides for a little more lift. By the way, front spacers lift about double their height, so 1/4"=.5", 1/2"=about 1". And most people I spoke to only got about 1.5-1.6" of lift at the 1.75 setting

I just got all four corners for $319 from downsouthmotorsport free shipping. Set the front to 1.75 had lifted the back 2" already. Sits really close to factory rake.[IMG]

What did you use to get the 2 in the back, I also see 5125 available for rear shocks any thoughts?

I welded a plate on top and bottom of playground coils that i cut 12" disconected my shock and bolted the top to the frame and used factory ubolts on the bottom. This pic was before the billies. It has gotten mixed reviews since spring steel weakens when heated but ive been keeping an eye on it and itsb een on 2 months now. Also this way my leaf springs are still the limiting factor so 5100 shouldnt bottom out.[IMG]

I just grabbed the ones off ebay for 88.99 a piece because i wanted to go with Old Man Emu N182 shocks in the rear for more travel than the rear 5100's.

I also went with a full length ad a leaf off ebay.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-2011-T...fits=Model:Tacoma&hash=item3a6e43d757&vxp=mtr

36inches long, supposed to make for a much better ride than all the short ad a leafs out there.

I just had Billys installed @ 1.75 today and ended up with almost 1.75" on the driver side and a bit more than 1.5" on the passanger side

Huh, I guess it all depends on truck too for how much lift you get. I should say that most I spoke to got right around 22 1/2" hub to fender up front, so it depends on what your truck was beforehand

    Looks good^^^

I imagine newer trucks see more lift since the springs are less wore. Also with a full tank and a driver haskett should be sitting pretty level

Actually that's something I never thought of, truck is running close to E right now...but after the install I am still approx. 0.5" high in the rear end so I am really happy with the result.

Now on to tire shopping...I like the way 255/75/17 fills out the wheel well but its hard to find anything I want in that size...275/70/17 is a nice common size around here but nearly $40+ per tire compared to the 255...

How would 5100's set at 2.5 give any better ride than spacers when they both do the exact same thing? I see people saying this and it makes no sense. Am I missing something?

Well the 5100s preload the coil instead of sitting on top of the coil assembly, but also the 5100s are designed and valved to provide lift by preloading the coil, unlike an OEM Toyota coilover/strut/shock. At 2.5, it probably rides almost like a spacer, but at 1.75 many have said it's a much better ride than a spacer lift.

I didn't realize we were talking about top spacers. I was thinking something like a Revtek spacer that preloads the coil. Top plate spacers are going to ride pretty much just like stock, so I doubt 5100's set at 1.75 would ride better unless you prefer a stiffer ride, which some people do.

From what I've read most people said that top plate spacers made the ride rougher as well as coil spacers. I've never had them, so I'm not 100% sure on that

top plate spacers (the spacers that go above the top of the strut in between it and the body mount) should never be used.... it will cause your shock to bottom out before your truck hits the bump stops.
