How many miles you got on them 27 year old tires? They look clean as hell. I'd bet you wouldn't trade them for new ones...or sell them.

Love to see more stock tires that have lasted longer than usual.

Not my truck - saw it the other day at the dealer. 17,000 miles on the truck, less on these tires.

Obviously, I haven't seen your tires but there are several things in life I would never cheap out on.....one being tires. Your life and the lives of others may depend on them.

If your sidewall is cracking, no matter how minor they should be replaced. You really don't want to have a blow out when you're driving. I can't say that this is any smarter than someone who drives on bald tires.

Tires are one thing that I take very seriously. I'm not a gambler, especially with something I put so much trust in.

    Replace them now.

I see a lot of fancy rigs where I live here, and it is amazing to park next to them only to see that the metal cords are showing on their precious Escalade...

I've blown out no less than a couple dozen tires in my life and I've never had anything catastrophic happen or had any subsequent damage done to the vehicles. That's including the 4runner I blew up in high school. I'm not saying something serious can't happen but I've got no points on my license, haven't had an accident in over 10 years and I drive like an old woman. I'm also pretty sure there is a warning light that comes on as soon as the tire loses pressure (correct me if I'm wrong). I never go above 59mph in my daily commute and cannot foresee an accident occurring because of a tire failure. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing a shit load of wood knocking because of this thread lol.

If you are involved in an accident and if it's because of those cracked sidewalls, you can be held responsible. By some it would be considered you not doing regular maintenance on your vehicle. I wouldn't be impressed if I was involved an in accident because of someone that don't take care of their vehicle. Especially as something as simple as getting new tires. I'm sure that you would be thinking differently if someone were to cause an accident and you were involved.

I am not saying this because I am a saint or anything. I am saying this because I knew someone who is very close to me. She was involved in an school bus accident(a few years ago) because the person who was in a passenger car was speeding and took a corner too fast on bald tires and hit the school bus head on. She was thrown from her seat in the bus. The driver of the car was killed. We almost lost the person close to me as well, she was very lucky. She had major head injuries and survived with no major issues after her recovery. She was the only one who suffered injuries, even the school bus driver who was pregnant was very lucky and wasn't injured.

I just wished that people took their maintenance on their vehicles more seriously.

I take great care of my vehicle, and that is a stretch to say that I don't. The tires have great tread, they hold air and many new tires have sidewall cracking...it's a uv thing and does not always mean your tires are toast. I admit it's time, but I like stretching my dime. I may be a cheap ass, but my vehicle is taken care of.

Well at least you're honest that your cheap, and cheap trumps safety(cough). I'm sure that you'd think differently if someone t-boned you because they had metal on metal brakes because they felt they didn't need to change their brakes.

I got 70k out of a set of BFG AT KO's on my 96 taco but like mentioned above the sidewalls had cracks from the sun/ weather. They still had a 1/4' of thread left, I tried to milk a few more thousand of miles out of them and ended having a blowout on the freeway. One of the cracks on the sidewall opened up and it was all over. The 16 yr old original spare got me to discount tire.

Rule of thumb on trailer tires is to replace at 5 regardless of tread. Trailer tires generally sit more and sidewalls are real concern. At 7 on trucks tires it is probably about time to replace.

I always apply the "give away" test to problems like this.

When you finally sell/get rid of the tires will you have changed the tires by then?? IF so and you wait, you're only giving new tread to someone else that you could be using now.
