For whatever reason, the local rain water and no doubt puddles and what not leave long build up lines on the windshield running almost vertical. Kind of like plague or a calcium buildup.

I have tried various brand of glass cleaners, none removed the deposits.

I tried Spot X, the pulverized shells, made specifically for removing this stuff.

    Nothing was very effective.

So, gave it some thinking, possibly a big mistake. Decided to attempt the buildup removal from rear side window first.

Using style 7781 densely woven fiberglass cloth, I used it as a scrubbing pad, with glass cleaner and got good result with no scratching. Next, while washing, I used the fiberglass cloth with soap.

Result were very good with no scratching.

If you attempt it, the fiberglass is available from Aircraft Spruce or a quality aviation composite shop.

Don't use fingertips, but rather a soft foam block or your palm. As you work the area, don't let it dry, as you remove the deposits, the resistance will lessen and become smooth.

FWIW, it also did a good but not perfect job on the rubber window trim. More time or several attempts will bring that back I believe.

Do not use ScotchBrite, it has some seriously hard metals bonded into the pad and will most likely scratch the glass. Considered if steel on steel can sharpen and clean, glass on glass should see similar results.

Try a side glass first. Worked for me, hopefully it helps others.

Good to know there is another option to try. I have used Purple Power cleaner on my daily driver (luckily mot the tacoma) the windows now look like they are etched by this product. I have rubbed a small piece with a clay bar and it worked, but it takes a lot of effort.

I also tried Mothers claybar, and it came up short.

Maybe the fiberglass with polish through the etched layer.

If you're getting buildups of the plague on your windows, I'm glad I don't live in your area!

I've always used vinegar diluted with some water on really tough spots on the glass on my vehicles, and it typically works very well. Most I've ever had to do is wet down a paper towel with the solution and let it rest on the spot to soften it up before scrubbing it off.
But, around here, it's mostly just bugs and pine pitch that gets on my windows.

    Hello PK!

I haven't noticed anything in the glass (& I am picky) but the rubber moulding on all 3 of my vehicles have that crappy build-up. I may try this soon. I'll keep you posted.

Tried Vinegar early on with no luck. It is not just the Tacoma, it happens to many cars.

No doubt the water spots get cooked in by the sun, or even a short shower on the hot glass contributes also.

    It does clean up though.

I'll give that a try on the rubber moldings.

Is the paint warning in regards to house paint or all paints?
