Older fart here. What you say pets my prejudices which explains why I have a 2010 regular cab 4WD, 2.7L. I bought it because my Boxster S drives in the snow like a toboggan trying to go uphill. At any rate, the Porsche satisfies my performance 'needs.'

Still, I WOULD buy an aftermarket exhaust if I could find ANY authoritative, reliable information that it would result in greater efficiency with no downside besides sound.

i have a 99 4cyl and i put a super 44 flowmaster on it. i like it. i had a v6 before and i thought it would have sounded like that but it is a 4 banger. but it does have a good low tone. pretty loud in the cab. if i did it again i wouldnt ahve got it but it is what it is. i have always put flowmasters on all my trucks.

Stick with stock. NA 4 cylinders need the back pressure, free flowing exhaust offers nothing unless you have forced induction. In my opinion performance exhaust on most 4 cylinders sounds obnoxious and tends to sputter a lot when you let off the throttle. I know because I used to own a Honda...

Keep it stock, unless you want it to be louder or sound nicer. you will not feel any significant gain in power. I have a magnaflow and lce header, slight power gain and its louder than stock haha.

pioneer deh-x6600bt deck ($150 @ bewst buy), Rockville RW8CA 8" 600 Watts Peak/150 Watts RMS Slim Powered/Active Sealed Car Subwoofer With Bass Remote ($103 @ amazon.com), BOSS Audio KIT2 8 Gauge Amplifier Installation Kit (like $20 on amazon.com), blue LED fog lights, no annoying door chime (disconnected drivers door button), charcoal air filter and elbow removed,Kensun HID Xenon - H4 (HB2) (9003) Bi-Xenon (Dual-Beam) - 12000k.
I changed out my stock deck with a pioneer deh-x6600bt, and apparently toyota has some pretty good stock speakers. With he deck being able to push more watts than the original, my truck was pretty loud as it was, then I put in a small powered amp, now my truck passes people off without having to turn the volume past 30. Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
    Hi Dan, :)

I've done quite a bit of trial and error experimenting, including dyno testing, to find out which exhaust system would work the best on my 2.7.

If you only get one single product, the very best bang for your buck is to replace your stock exhaust manifold with an LCE long tube header, and just keep the rest of your exhaust stock. The stock muffler is actually a very good design and is well matched to the engine.

    IMG_6922_zps7dbbc322_07628a6691328337873ea379188c4e63182a1115.jpg

On the dyno, the LCE header produced more torque as well as lowering the torque peak by 650 rpms from 3,800 rpms down to just 3,150 rpms.

I also dyno tested the stock muffler, a Magnaflow muffler, and a Flowmaster muffler head to head. As you can see, they were all very close...

    RED: stock muffler
BLUE: Magnaflow muffler, 22 inch straight through
GREEN: Flowmaster muffler, chambered, Series 50 Delta Flow

    all_3_zps45fc619a_bb15193777cf255efff0bc857df31fc495c62106.jpg

The Flowmaster muffler just slightly edged out the other two by producing a little more torque while generating a torque peak 100 rpms lower than the other two mufflers.

I just replaced my original with a Magna Flow, love the sound. All my research on this forum recommended that I use a good custom muffler shop instead of a chain shop and that was great advice. I used Robert's Custom Exhaust located in Stafford VA http://robertscustomexhaust.com/ Anyone looking for a shop that specialize s in exhaust and does solid work at a fair price, he is worth the drive. Only caveat, he is a one man show and unless someone cancels you may have to wait a week or two to get an appointment.

Being an older guy here (not old) like a couple of others I can't see the point in running anything other than the stock exhaust although Tooter does show that the LCE header helps and when I'm crawling around in the mountains it would be nice to have the torque down lower so I don't have to rev the engine as much. I could see myself doing one of those some day although, since this is my first 4x4 I've actually been quite stunned at where it will go completely stock with open diffs, no lift and street Michelin M/S 2's. I can only imagine where these guys with the heavily modified Taco's are going and I have seen some impressive pics. On the other hand. I was in my 20's at one time and I understand, totally, the need and desire to modify anything and everything on your vehicle of choice. Press on you young whippersnappers.:D Uh, and those of you that just use your Taco as a toy. Mine is a daily driver at this point.

I also have a question???? When the time comes to do my exhaust can I leave the CAT out without screwing up the way the truck runs or throwing codes. I'm lucky enough to live where there are no smog checks. If there is any chance of screwing up the way it runs I'll just replace the CAT when the time comes. Also, this truck is originally from Kalifornia so it has two O2 sensors. From what I have heard in other states there was only one on a 2004. Is this true and can one be deleted???? Without screwing up the way the truck runs and throwing codes????

I'm assuming by 2 sensors you mean one pre-cat and one post-cat. If you delete the cat you'll need to install some type of O2 simulator for the sensor after the cat otherwise you'll throw a code. IIRC, deleting the post cat sensor altogether will cause you to run super rich.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when the day comes to replace the exhaust. I will most probably just leave it stock but it's nice to have options.
