Yeah , so like I said if they won't look the same the new Tacoma won't look like the truck in the OP that everyone is gagging over

There's actually some similarities in body lines, accents. I was deployed and had one for a daily driver and it was very similar in alot of ways.

Well with the "Chicken Tax" still in place Toyota would be crazy not to keep manufacturing the North American trucks here. So if you have to manufacture the trucks here, why not at least partially or fully cater to the local customer. It probably makes very little difference to the bottom line.

However if the Tax is repealed then I suspect Toyota would eventually move the manufacture of the mid size back overseas, and move back to a single mid-size platform. And turn Texas into a Tundra only facility.

"It’s worth noting the Ridgeline was less than 2.5 seconds behind the loaded V-8, offering the highest calculated payload capability (with 31 bags and two passengers, totaling 1,565 pounds) and the smallest engine of the bunch."

From the pickuptrucks.com midsize truck shootout where they tested: 2012 Chevy Colorado, 2011 Ford Ranger, 2012 GMC Canyon, 2012 Honda Ridgeline, 2012 Nissan Frontier, 2012 Suzuki Equator and 2012 Toyota Tacoma.

I already posted this detailed and informative thread awhile ago on the next Hilux and Tacoma, but for some reason, it disappeared due to lack of interest (TW not too interested in or informed on pre-production development of future models).

I usually use search to be sure at times, as many similar speculatory threads have been posted in the past.

It most certainly does not take just two years from scratch to get up to this point on a truck, but 3-4 years. Prototypes (like above) utilizing the production-body design, take at least 6 months to build from a final design freeze. Not like cobbled together mules, that take a few weeks up to 3-4 months construct (varies by automaker) from a freeze or establishing target dimensions.

Prior to that is body design/styling approval, which is typically 6 months ahead of that or 9-12 months on the high end. The lowest I've heard was 3 months, with Ford in the '90s (SN-95 Mustang-Oct. 1990-Jan 1991).

A basic design program will spend 12-18 months prior to styling approval, with an entire model development program (planning, initial research & development) starting months to a year before the design phase gets underway. The next Hilux's design was frozen in 2013, as was the 2016 Tacoma, so development likely started in 2010. They both arrive in 2015.
