Has anyone rhino lined their entire truck? If you did it yourself, how difficult was it to apply and if it was worth it?

line-x is better. i'm not sure what the cost would be for an entire truck paint job?

I did mine in Herculiner myself. Raptor liner is probably the best DIY bed liner out right now, check it out.

How long ago did you put on the Herculiner? How's it holding up to UV damage as far as fading / cracking?

I'm wanting to Line-X the whole thing some day, but in the meantime I'm looking at Herculiner for addons (rock sliders, custom tonneau cover, crossbed toolbox, etc). I saw this stuff called Rhino-Shine somewhere that looked like a UV coating you just paint over it, might check that out too. I'd Line-X those but I can't justify the expense, those guys aren't cheap.

I'm probably a year or so away from ordering anything but I like to plan ahead. I want to keep this thing as rust-free as possible for the next 20 years but I'm not going to baby it in a garage either.

It's been on there for four years or so. I shot several coats of martin senour industrial black paint over it so I don't know how it would hold up to the sun. I assume badly, that's why I painted it, but who knows.

From what I've heard about it that's probably a good call. So no maintenance needed for the paint in 4 years though?

maybe toyota should line x the tacomas and then paint over them in the future?

that would help everyone out. sortof like the chip primer they put on the rocker panels but just do the entire truck and then paint over it. :D

I installed the DIY Herculiner on my 96 tacoma bed / and over the rails. Plus on my rock sliders. I also installed it in my jeep interiors.

The bed was covered with a tonneau mostly - I had a strip about 3" that was exposed to the weather 24/7. Rock sliders were exposed 24/7 also.

The DIY Heculiner is thin and will wear off. Mine did in 3 or so years....... and I had to reapply it a couple times to any areas exposed to the weather.

It looks great when you first apply it but over time, it can & does fade (will look like shit). It's easy to reapply without any prep work (cleaning the surface) but just a PITA and you gotta buy more of it. Paint would probably work also to cover it...however, if you ever want to reapply the herculiner over paint, it might not stick/adhire as well as reapplying directly onto the old Herculiner.

My jeep interiors that I've done (2 of them) survived just fine - but that wasn't exposed to the weather at all.

Damn:confused:...I have seen a truck on here that someone did this too.
I can't remember who. And not sure what product was used.
It may be posted from someone eventually.

No, the paint sticks to it fine and it even handles pressure washing. Not that you need it, a garden hose or a good rain storm will wash it fine. No need to scrub anything.

Awesome, good to know! And for the curious, here's a thread where a guy recently coated his in Line-X:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/316490-line-x-whole-truck.html

I saw a thread where some guy did this to his Tundra in 2010 or so but I haven't been able to find it. I'm interested to see if he's done any followups recently.

My local Line-X shop quoted me $3500-$4000 so I probably won't be able to afford it anytime soon.

I did mine for around $200 total. It shows too! Someone with more patience could get it to turn out a lot better though.

i herculined my rockers and fender flares almost 7 years ago and am touching them up for the first time this weekend. It has held up fantastically IMO for an off the shelf roll on liner!!

its all about prep. i could have done a better job prepping the plastic fender flares and its peeling in some places (really the only reason i am touching everything up) but not bad for 7 years. 0 chipping/peeling etc. on the body panel parts. i also put about 3 coats on when i first did it.

i prefer the fading actually as it initially is fairly glossy when it first dries. i don't ming the color at all now and i have never painted it.

Did this to my 86 pickup with Scorpion Liner. Prep work is very important, you basically need to wire wheel the whole body. I wouldn't do it on a newer vehicle.
