i just plugged in my trailer today and noticed that the brake and turn signals worked but not the running lights. the only electrical mod i have done is the fog light mod and was curious if there was any chance this could affect the wire for the trailer's running lights.

Not likely. Do you have a voltage meter to check to see if you have 12v at the plug?

Did you check the trailer plug for corrosion?

x2 on tht ^^^. I just towed my small trailer and when I went to plug it in I didn't have any lights. I looked and they were all corroded. I took a small round file and did my best to clean it out and then shot some WD40 in there. Take a cue tip and finish cleaning it out and bam, got lights! The other thing to do would be to follow your wiring on the truck and trailer and make sure they are all connected, no cuts or anything.

As mentioned above check for corrosion and any crimped or clipped wires. If there is nothing obvious figure out which wire is which and trace your running lights out. I have a small flatbed trailer that had a rock crunch my brake light and none of the lights worked. Traced it out and found one wire that was smashed. Spliced the wire and it is all good now

Most small trailers are 4 wires - ground, left turn, right turn, and running lights. Braking applies both left and right. Check your running light wire - wire color may vary.

thanks guys. i have cleaned out the plugs and re-checked the trailer. still no luck, so I'm gonna trace the wires when i have my truck on a lift tomorrow to install my lift and bumper. i also checked the trailer on my tahoe and it works, so i know it has to be an issue with the truck wiring not the trailer.

How big a trailer? four or seven pin? if its a four how are you converting the stock seven pin to four? and have you checked the converter you're using? I have one that freaks out if it's not completely seated

    remove the fog light mod...
if you did your fog light mod via the Tow Tail Relay there are two users who reported they had problems with their trailers in that thread, it is buried. please let us know what happens.

its a jet ski trailer (4-pin) I'm using a converter, but also tried using the converter on the tahoe and it worked fine, so I'm still thinking it has to do with the tacoma wiring.

get one of the converters with the indicator lights. This style is almost a must have on my 2013. The receptacle on the truck sucks. I have to get the converter seated just right to get all lights working. 9 times out of 10 I do not have left brake until I move it a little. I have used this converter on 2 Fords and one other Tacpma with no problems. The other way to test is with a test light or circuit tester. Most trailer light problems are the trailer and not the truck.

Until you verify voltage at the 7pin all else is likely a waste of time; at this point you haven't traced to a pinched/damaged wire or even ruled out two busted low-intensity bulb filaments.

the I have has the same lights but it is a 7 pin to flat converter. You can hook to the 4 pin flat on trailer and in to the round 7 pin on the truck. Turn on taillights and e flashers and all 3 indicator lights on converter should be on or flashing.

Same problem, just noticed when i hooked up the boat trailer after 6 months, no voltage at the truck female connection, traced back to a blown 30 amp fuse inside the engine bay fuse box, thought that was the issue but still no voltage at the truck's stock connection. there is a relay next to the fuse labeled towing lights but not sure if that is the issue/dont know how to check. anyone have a wiring diagram?
