Hey guys, need some input...my 06 has an odd noise in the front end.
It makes a growling noise whenever I am moving which at first I thought was just tread noise from the tires.
It does it in both 2 wheel, AND 4 wheel drive, and this is the odd part, if I am going around a curve to the right, the noise will suddenly stop once the wheels are past a certain angle. As soon as I straighten the wheels out past that point, the noise re-appears. It does NOT go away if turning to the left, though.
I'm wondering if it's wheel bearing, or a CV axle bearing, or what?
It has 118,000 miles on it, NO lift, and custom wheels, but the stock size tires. There is a slight offset to the front wheels of about 1/8 inch so the rims would clear the brake calipers.
    Any ideas??

hey neighbor, didn't know anyone else from Monticello was on here. Sounds just like my wheel bearing when it was going out. Mine was the driver front and went with 125k on the clock. I don't remember seeing your truck around, what part of wayne co. you live in? By the way check out the classifieds in here, I bought mine off of bamatoy1997. He puts them together for you so its a direct bolt on install with the seal.

I'm down off of 167 and Parmleysville Rd, about 5 miles north of the State line.
    Is Bamatoy someone local?
I have a gearhead neighbor who says we need to jack it up, and check it with no load on the wheels. When the weather is good, I'll give it a try.
By the way, I'm the guy that drives the yellow 64 Corvair Convertible around town from time to time.

Thanks for all the quick replies!
Sure sounds like it's a wheel bearing, and the pre-fabbed setup from Bamatoy is the way to go!

I think I've seen your corvair around but not your truck. My brother in law lives a few miles before you in Rice Hollow. If you need any tools or help let me know. I live on hwy 200 about 4 miles from town.

Thanks, I'll do that! I ordered the parts, so hopefully by next week, I won't have to worry about having a wheel fall off! :D

Wow, did I just find a parts guy who REALLY needs to go back to school!
I was checking at the local Advance Auto Parts about the inner seals for the front wheel bearing replacement. The ones I saw on line were about $6.00 each. He told me they were $47.00 each!
THEN, when I explained that I was buying the entire hub and bearing assembly pre- made, he told me; "We have them!"
What he showed me was just the bearing assembly, which he then told me "Well, you STILL have to have it pressed on the Spindle on the front end."!
    SPINDLE?? On a 4X4?
Am I missing something, or is he an idiot??
Oh, Auto Zone has the seals for $7.00 each. Guess I know where I will be shopping from now on!

I put the new wheel bearing sets on yesterday. Well, I mostly watched as a gearhead neighbor of mine did it, actually! :D
He fought for hours with one lousy brake caliper bolt that finally required marinating in PB Blaster for hours, going after it with an impact wrench, and finally beating on it with an 8 pound sledge hammer on the end of the ratchet to get it to break loose!
What a pain in the butt!
ALSO, whoever last rotated the tires, and I think it was the dealer in Knoxville cross-threaded 3 of the wheel studs on one wheel, and TOTALLY nuked the studs and lug nuts! So, now I have to go get 3 more lug nuts for my wheels. Good thing there are new studs on the front. I HATE IT when so-called mechanics can't check to be sure the lug nuts spin on freely before ramming them on with an impact wrench!
