I have an almost three years old (2012) TRD Offroad access cab with about 25000 miles. This morning I started the car and in the next 5 minutes the transmission seemed to be locked in 5th gear no matter how slow I was going and the car was vibrating quite bad, no power. I assume was locked in 5th because at 80km/h (50mph) had like 1500rpm on flat. At 50km/h I had 1000rpm or bit less.

After that I pressed accelerator harder and seemed to work kind of ok, a bit sluggish.

    Should I panic?

I've owned 3 2nd gen tacos, all have done this once in a while and I'm not sure of the cause. No issues from the transmission from any of them though so I think you are good. It mainly happened to me when I was going uphill and it downshifted, even once on a flat road when I downshifted to give it gas and stuck there for maybe 2 miles.

The auto is just really hesitant to downshift, it likes to hold the high gears.
