I'm new to the group and toyoto, just bought a 96 toyoto tacoma ext cab v6 auto transmission,391 gears, got a body lift and a supension lift ant sure excact lift height, good looking truck but got problems,my truck is 6 lug on the front is has 1 1/2 spacers, take spacers off and my rims hit my break caliber, with the spacers my rims are set way out from hub leaving whole hub about visa let when mounted rides like crap, shakes, to run 35 12.50 tires what size rims would be best for best ride? And I do very little off roading, when normal high way driving with the auto transmission I can't use my over drive cause when I hit a hill it kill my truck due to wrong gears for my big tires, I just ordered 488 gears from summit racing, I drive around 60mph normaly, did I choose right gear? All help and opinions will be appreciated, just need help upgrading my truck to ride and perform with my tire size

You need hubcentric spacers, the ones you have are probably cheap "ebay" spacers. Your wheels have to little backspacing to clear the calipers. To options, buy the correct spidertrax or bora spacers or new wheels with the correct backspacing.

Gearing, I haven't a clue, but I am sure the right people will be along shortly.

The spacers I have are aluminum, but that's all I know about them, but even with correct spacers, it still looks like I have a lot of tire hanging off the end of my hub, I've looked at back spacing charts but still dnt understand it, but like I said I'm new to this, I belive my my ride would be better and my bearings would last longer if I had new wheels, right now I have 15 inch wheels but I have a brand new set of 17 inch 35 12.50 nitto mud grapplers, what's the narrowest wheel I can mount 12.50s on, and what back spacing are wheel would I have to have not to have to use wheel spacers on front end?

Turn the wheel around, near the wheel size should be a number like 15, 30 or some single or double digit number, like this:

That is the offset, what is that number? Factory 1st gen alloys are a 15mm offset.

I use 10" wide rims with my 33x12.50 and am happy with that. I have seen folks run 8" wide rims with that wide of tire, but they do not allow for the full width of the tire to be expressed.

There is also a 10 on the wheel with a circle like symbol around it, friend of mine just came over and suggested doing away with spacers and putting washers on then bolting my tire on fixing to give that a try, and see if it helps the way truck rides

My main concern is I belive these are chevy 6 lug wheels, is it possible to have wheels that is no way possible to make ride smooth? Thinking maybe the 12 inch wide rim is a lot of my problem to.. I'm wanting my big 35 12.50 tires to stay in my truck but with a smooth ride, wondering if going to a 9 inch wide rim would improve my ride, and still curious if I went with correct gears also, got 4.88s orderd

Stay away from using washers! They don't distribute the load evenly like the spacers do. The stresses on the wheel are great and all you'll be doing by using the washers is setting yourself up for more problems, especially if the wheel fails at the lug hole.

Do it right the 1st time and have a cold one.

Sorry I don't have an answer for your questions, I just don"t want to see you have any more problems than you already have.

Well I have done put the washers on, it did seem to help, doesn't have the vibration it did with the spacers, just did a 2 mile test run, but after putting washers didn't leave a lot of treads for my lug nuts being washers shortened up my studs, wish some of you guys that really know your toyotos lived close by lol, going to take washers back off dnt need any more problems, I like the look of the wheels I have but think best idea is to buy a wheel that don't requere in mods are spacers to work.. Am I own the right track now?

It seems you have several issues compounding the problem. The Chevy wheels, wrong style of spacer and the wrong offset.

See if can find someone with a 1st gen and see if they will let you borrow their wheels long enough to do a quick test run, this will eliminate everything inboard of the hubs. If the previous owner drove it for very long with vibrations, you could have a whole host of suspension problems.

6" suspension lift, header, cold air intake, racing brake proportioning system, 33' tires, 1.25 wheel spacers.
How old are tires?? probably have scallops or uneven tread, just replaced mine because of that same reason. Leave spaces ON!! that gives you the clearance for turning!!! I have the same set up and drives like bran new with new tires.

Tires are new, 35 12.50 15 ..dick cepek crushers, got my 488 gears ordered, fixing to order the narrowest spacers I can get! I just want anough to make wheels clear break calibers, thinking the more inset towards the truck the better , the inch and half spacers I have for the front allow my tire to hang way out from hub thinking that's causeing a over load and causeing most of my vibration think the rest will clear up by getting tires re balanced and front end inlinement checked out

I've tryed that, around 60 mph when my truck shifts out of overdrive down to what I call passing gear I've turned my over drive off and it goes in a lower gear than what it drops to with overdrive on, and I want to use my overdrive, what can I do to fix the problem, summit raceing where I ordered my gears cacaleted and told me to go with a 4:56 gear with 35 tires but I went with a 4:88 did I gear to low? Are what is my problem? I'm lost!

Just drove it home from work and see that when it shifts into over drive long as I keep pressure on the gas it stays in over drive but at same time it's getting faster so I have to let off, on flat highway are even going down a hill I can let off gas and time I do it downshifts to a lower gear
