Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I never knew this would be so hard. I have never dealt with this kind of grief before. I have lost grandparents, but I'm fortunate to still have my parents. When we got him, I couldn't fathom losing him would be this way. I can't fully comprehend that I won't see him anymore. I am happy though, as hard as it was, that I was with him. I feel sorry for my wife, as she is in Florida and didn't have the chance to say goodbye. As I sit here with his leash draped over my shoulder, my heart breaks for her. She was ill this summer and was out of work a bit. Maybe a blessing in disguise, that she was able to spend the summer with him. I regretted not taking the trip to Florida, until today. I don't know how I could have handled it, despite it being difficult to be here. But he is forever placed in his woods, where he loved so much to walk and run. And I take solace in that I did that for him. He had a little dislike towards strangers, but was a loving dog to his family. A good dog. Our little monkey. Please hug your pets for me tonight.

I'm a huge dog lover (I have 5 of them) and its been over a year since my Pit/Boxer "Jack" passed away. I'm still not over it and never really will be.

RIP to your buddy. I'll let my buddies in the sky know to go keep him company! Don't worry, he'll have lots of friends to play with.

    Take care OP.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and I hope coming to TW with it helps even a little bit. I've lost multiple pets and it is not easy by any means. Praying for your family.

So sorry to hear about Polar. It's amazing how a dog can become such a part of our lives and when they leave us, it leaves an awful hole.

Only six-years old seems such a short time to have with him, but it seems as though he had a caring family to spend it with.

BTW, my daughter got a kick out of that picture of Polar rolling in the driveway:)

It's been about 14 months since I put my boxer Gemini to sleep...she was only 8 years old but unfortunately she developed cancer. It's not easy brother, but just remember the good times you have with these four legged family members and it makes it ever so slightly easier.

It does, that why I did it. To put down in just a few short words, what he meant to us, is very fulfilling.

That's why we call him our monkey :)

Thank you all for the kind words. I tried to go to work today, but had to leave. 6 yrs was too short, but something was going on. He passed with little to no pain, and by my side. I can't believe how difficult this is, he was a dog. But he was such a good friend, and our little buddy.

They are. He was actually a pretty low key dog, except when meeting his family. He would bounce and twirl around. Thank you.

Losing a pet is one of the most difficult experiences I've ever had, so I really feel for you man. In time, the pain will lessen and you will have lots of good memories to fall back on. Hang in there.

We just had to give up a dog we rescued a few months ago because she bit a neighbor's little boy on the leg. She's sitting in a shelter right now, I feel awful all the way around.

Anyway, you should feel comforted by the fact that you were there for your little guy when he needed you the most.
