Hey guys I've got a "table saw vs sliding compound miter saw" dilemma.

I just sold a real nice table saw and radial arm saw because I never use them. The reason I never use them is because they are in my basement so its a pain to bring lumber down there, then it makes a huge mess and gets saw dust everywhere (no vac system).

My plan was after selling them, to buy a nice portable table saw and a sliding compound miter saw. This allows me to use them in the garage, the driveway, the yard, the basement, or take them somewhere else.

I dont have enough money to buy both right now so I'm trying to decide which I'll use more.

Thinking about the projects I have coming up in my house, possibly some trim work, planning on building a deck next spring. So I'm thinking the SCMS is the best bet. I know there is a lot that can be done on a table saw too but I'm not sure of any projects that will require one anytime soon.

edit: I have a nice circular saw already so I use that for most of my plywood cutting.

I had a Hitachi sliding, compound mitre a long time ago, it was a great saw. I dont know how they are now though. Best I can offer.

 

I use to use a Hitachi 14 or 15 inch miter saw and I really loved it. It was a great saw. I bought the Ridgid 12" scms a few months ago and so far it's been a really great saw. Can't beat the lifetime service agreement on them.

Mine was $100 more than the Hitachi but I got the utility vehicle with it too. At 80 lbs it's not too easy to be moving all the time without the vehicle.
