2nd Gen Fog Light Switch Wiring Question

I'm currently putting in aftermarket fogs in my SR5 (factory wiring is all there) and when it came to hook up the switch, I noticed that the factory wiring has a different plug than the aftermarket plug does. (this kit)

Would I be able to just cut the plug off of the factory wiring and wire up the aftermarket plug or do I have to spend $116 bucks (at my dealer) and buy the OEM foglight switch?

Sooo, you bought this kit that includes wiring and switch but you chose not to use any of that and connected the lights to your oem wiring and now want to pop in the aftermarket switch... is this right?

If correct, then yes you can chop the wires and replace the plug, BUT you MUST find out the function of each wire and rewire to the correct pins. Your aftermarket switch has an indicator led so its not wired the same. The oem wires will have to be wired to the new switch correctly. With a meter and a little knowledge of electrical this is easy to do but if you have no idea how the circuit functions then you may have trouble.

Also note that in order to light up the LED indicator on your ftermarket switch you need a positive switched circuit. Our OEM fog lights use a negtive switched system. So on second thought this wont be possible without a relay and alot of unnecessary work. I recommend an OEM plug. Or save the money and just use the aftermarket wire harness provided in the kit and bypass all your OEM stuff.

 

It sounds weird I know, but the kit dropped to $36 so it was a steal. I figured it wouldn't hurt to have the extra wiring in case, but knew I would likely run into compatibility issues along the way.

White with a Black Stripe: Switch Ground
Blue: Fog Light Trigger
Green with a White Stripe: Dash Illumination Ground
Green: Dash Illumination Positive

I was unaware that the OEM switch didn't illuminate, so this is news to me. Rather than installing the aftermarket wiring harness, it it possible to use the aftermarket switch on the factory wiring, minus the illumination feature? I have experience cutting, soldering, splicing, etc. with a guide, but I'm not very good at figuring out circuits and such on my own. That being said, if this is likely to be a hassle for me, I'll just pick up an OEM switch and call it a day.

 

Forgot to update this earlier. Anyways I finally got an OEM switch from a user off here, a relay from my local autoparts store (Beck/Arnley Part #203-0133 for $15) and I already had the fuse in place.
Accompanied with some Hella H10 yellow bulbs and everything looks great!

This is all you should need if you already have the wiring for the fogs behind your front bumper!

 

I done the same thing in my 2014, but the problem im having is that the small 15amp fuse in my fusebox under the hood keeps losing connection. Like the fogs will be off and i can wiggle that fuse and they will go on and off, like its not making a good connection, but the fuse is very tight in there. I dunno whats causing it. I may have to get in there and try and dig around a bit or something to get it working.
