This is in my car which is the exact same in my truck. The wife has the truck right now. It automatically turns on then begins to record, i have it set for the screen to turn off a few mins after being on.

I try to "hide" it in line with my rear view mirror, I run the cord along the roof with the vanity mirror thingy, then down the passenger door seal. I just tuck it in there and then under floor mat.

I can't see the screen from where i sit, it is behind the rear view mirror, but i can lean over and see that the led light is on to indicate that it is recording.

People ask me about that all the time. How are you gonna see what happens behind you?

Not about that. Its about proving what you were doing. Was I stopped already? Moving? slamming on brakes? ect. I could give a rats ass about the person behind me, and the possibility of them getting off on a technicality I recorded.

I have an earlier model similar to OPs. I like it a lot. It has already paid off for me once (got sideswiped) and I plan on getting another for a rear facing dash cam.

I've got this camera and couldn't be happier with it.

From this angle it looks like it sticks in the line of sight but it's really high up on the windshield.

    Wow. I'm getting edikated.

So if you have the cam hardwired to run when the car is on, what happens if you shut the ignition off? Can you set them to run for like an hour after you shut the ignition off?

Not the one that I have. I usually take it down and put it in the center console so not to be seen. It's nice if someone pulls out in front of you.

Most have a motion sensor that will record if it senses something. Could be decent if you have a lot of break-ins in your area. I have my motion sensor off though, I have it running in case I get into an accident or if I see an accident. I can have video proof of what happened. I am looking into a rear-facing dash cam, but they're harder to find because of the mounts. Most have a mount that is angled with the windshield, not to be placed at a 90 degree angle

There are standalone battery units that will power the dashcam when the vehicle is off. Look on Amazon.

And I agree that a forward camera is more important than a rearward camera, though my plan is to have both once I sort out a way to mount a rearward camera. I was rear ended earlier this year, before I had a dashcam, the guy who hit me claimed I hit him making a sudden lane change and his insurance is still refusing to pay for the damage. That is why I have had a dashcam since the accident, and mine runs off my second battery so I just let it run 24x7.

I'm considering setting something up so it can run 24x7, I like the idea of it. Just had an issue of the Gsensor being way to sensitive on the high setting, it locked all the footage apparently for the last 5 1/2 hours and filled up the sd card. Just re-formatted the sd card and turned off the gsensor, I figure if I get in an accident I have 5 1/2 of run time before i possibly lose the important footage. If I go that long before retrieving it, then I'm just dumb.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
How'd you get the suction cup to stick on the textured dot area high on the windshield? I'd like to get mine up there behind the mirror similar to yours. I just received my camera today so for a test run tonight it is to the right of the mirror and a little too obvious for my liking so i'm not going to keep it there.

Put some 3m double sided tape on the suction cup. Or make a new mount that replaces the cup like I did

Hey guys, I'm a huge believer in dash cams as well. A great site for comparison of all the dash cams is https://dashcamtalk.com/. I ended up getting the DVR 027 720P. It has been rock solid so far. I had to make sure I got a real one because there are many knockoffs out there, but I like it so far.

I have a GoProHD (the first HD model) just wondering how you are going to use it as a dash cam, I cant find a way to have it turn on and off with the truck, I am replacing my old gopro with a 4 so I wanted to use it but that was the little flaw I ran into.
