Just ordered an MVCI cable. I've seen listings for a 22 pin connector adapter for Toyotas. Is this something I'd need? Where would I find the 22 pin port on my truck?

Ok, from more research, it appears the 22 pin connector is only needed for older models. I don't think I'd have any use for it on my 2012. Can anyone confirm?

Do you mean for the OBD2 Scanner? If you get an OBD2 scanner you do not need any type of adapter cable.

Your Tacoma has a 16 pin connector for the OBD2. You do not need any adapter cable to connect an OBD2 Scanner.

The 16 pin OBD2 Connector is under the dash on the left side of the steering wheel. It may / should have a dust cover that pulls off to expose the connector.

The cable in the Amazon link has a 22 pin(OBD-1) on one end and a 16 pin(OBD-II) on the other end. Some scanners are setup to read OBD-1 and OBD-II codes. You connect the 22 pin in your older OBD-I vehicle; then connect the 16 pin end of the cable to your scanner.

There were OBD-I cars that had ports similar in concept to todays OBD-II port. Others simply had a 2 port connection that you'd jumper with a wire; then count CHECK ENGINE blinks in the dash cluster.
