If it's my property I wouldn't worry about storing them in the garage. Build a nice berm, good targets, and leave them.

...for .22 you can get one of those targets w/ the little steel gongs/plates ( that spin or swing when hit ) for pretty cheap, ..just don't use anything more than .22 on that..

Shooting paper targets is boring. When on private property, I like to shoot steel plates, tennis balls, bottles, cans, and bricks. But on a public range, paper is usually the only option.

Here is a good option for a mobile, quick setup target that is easy to store when not used. Any steel target of your choosing. I get mine from http://www.jcsteeltargets.com/

Get this target hanger and use electrical conduit for the legs. It's cheap, lightweight, and easy to put up and take down. I usually leave it in the back of my truck when not in use. https://jcsteeltargets.mycustomeven...9&cid=318&returncom=productlist&source=search

Here is one of mine in use:

3/8 inch AR500 steel will last a lifetime if you aren't stupid with it. My plates have thousands of rounds with slight dimpling.

I used to aim my Slingshot at a buoy that was rigged on a stump. Used to aim at birds on wires with my air rifle. Until I shot one, with it last action clenched it feet and swung on the wire.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I like AR500, bowling pins, or those orange "self healing" active targets they sell. Those things can take a fuck all of a beating. You often can even recover a smaller slug from them if you're interested!

This - along with a little food coloring for effect & contrast. 1/2 gallon jugs work well too.
