It just looks like two completely different trucks were welded together in the middle.

Yeah...not liking it at all. Glad I got my '12. Love that truck and plan to keep it until I can't get parts or fuel for it any longer.

You can criticize anything based on looks. It's completely subjective. When I first saw the pictures of the '16, I thought, well, they definitely didn't throw away the mold and start with a clean sheet of paper. Who really cares? I bought a '14 so I obviously have no problem with what it looks like. If you're going to gripe about stuff like fake vents and exterior plastic, take a look around. You get that stuff on BMWs too.

Personally, I like the '12 looks better than my '06, but they went crazy with all of the venting, angles, accents and the like on this new one. It just doesn't flow. It's like they took a styling point from every single full and mid sized truck past and present and put something on there. They could've done the tail like the new Tundra, given a refresher to the front that doesn't look so... Whatever, and they could've style the bed to flow with the sides of the truck. The biggest thing for me is the side view of the truck. It really looks like a tacoma front half photoshopped onto some other brand of bed. It looks out of place.

Yeah, well, a lot of people still gripe about their design and still think the only "real" BMW is a 2002, Bavaria, or (fill in the blank). The point is, it is all a matter of opinion.

I think the performance of the '16 Tacoma will be what matters most.

If you look at the designs that Toyota has come up with for a long time this fits. Despite the fact that some of their designs are done here, you see the influence of the Japanese design eye, which favors intricacy over cleanness. It's the opposite of the German "less is more" design theory. Like it or not, it gives the truck a Toyota look that fits with their other vehicles.

All those intricacies help draw the eyes away from the frame rust that will start developing on Mid-West and Northeast Tacomas in 2017.

Personally, I like the looks of all the generations- each has their own character. My issue is buying a near-$40K truck that lasts less than a decade before it is a rust bucket. I can even live with warmed-over engines and transmission, but they need to improve the body and frame integrity on this newest edition. I get to see it Wednesday if my evil plan holds true. I might be the only one there crawling under the truck, not checking out the number of USB ports.

Wow. Good way to look at life. Hope you don't have that attitude with everything.
