Squeaky Penguin's (Trip Reports) Build Thread

LCA bolts are free. Loosened them myself less than a year ago. I've been meaning to drop the rack for a while anyways. Believe I'm off a tooth or two as one tie rod is screwed most of the way in and the other is a fair bit out.

And who's subbed my build besides these assholes? vv

 

Did the sleeves come out too? I got 3/4 bolts out, but only one sleeve. The rest met the business end of an angle grinder.

 

Just read Plinys, good write up.

However, I doubt you will be able to pop the sleeves out, mine were a rusted pile of shit, hacksaw, BFH and screwdriver required.

 

Hmmm. Making me wonder if I should order a new bolt kit to replace them at the same time.

 

I would certainly have them on hand at least.

I got the Moog greasables, looks like the ones for your truck don't have the grease zerk though.

Hey buddy when you go to change your front end bushings and ball joints let me know. I'm more then willing to come by and lend a hand. It will be a good learning experience for me since its on my to do list as well.

Unfortunately, I don't have room at my place down here on the Front Range for a multi-day project, and don't want to risk not finishing and having to ride my motorcycle around. I will most likely do all this work up in Steamboat where I have access to a heated garage, more tools, and my old car should the job take longer than expected.

 

Just so you know what you are in for, after beating, grinding, hacking pressing and cussing at these fuckers for over 20 hours, I threw in the towel today and ordered some Dirt King LCAs as I was DONE with fucking with them. The final straw was bending one of the sleeves on the Whiteline bushings while pounding them in, as they do not fit in the BJ press that I had.

Hope you are ready for this. I wish I had just ordered new ones from the get go, and thought about it many many times as I was cussing at those bitches, and finally did.

Yup, I had nothing left in the tank to deal with them anymore. As you know they are a BITCH.

 

All I heard is we're going to go jump this thing now.





But yeah, that sounds like a huge pain in the ass. Hoping mine go smoother.

 

Haha, no. I have been wanting some aftermarket arms, but wasn't ready to drop that much on them, but I was over it.

 

Newest advice, get some calipers on the Whitelines and verify the OD compared to a stock/Moog. I believe that mine got fubard from being too large, which appears to be common issues, on the 4R/2nd gens anyway.

 

Thanks for the heads up. Jace tossed a set in his first gen quite recently and didn't have any issues, but I'll check just to be sure.

 

Care to elaborate so I don't grenade mine?

 

^Yeah the stuff that comes with Poly bushings acts like lube to begin with (for install) then turns tacky and holds the outside of the bushing in place. If you use regular grease or lube to press them in, they can move where they're not supposed to. Like Timmy said, you want the sleeve to be where the movement takes place.

 

Thanks guys. Anyways, just heard back on the Whiteline bushings and they're backordered until late March early April. From my business experience, that means July or August. Onto Energy Suspension I guess....

 

^I used Energy Suspension for my steering rack bushings and the engine mounts on the civic... So far, they've held up great.

 

I've got a set of Energy Suspension steering rack bushings too with no complaints.

Went ahead and ordered the LCA bushings from them. The kit also comes with UCA bushings, good excuse to do those at the same time.
