you know Toyota doesn't make they're own oil right?

everything I've read says its just rebranded Mobil, so if Mobil is cheaper than "Toyota" oil then might as well buy Mobil and save some pennies if you have to have Toyota oil.

I only can say my dad has used amsoil since early 80's and has had no issues what so ever. Thats the ONLY reason i started using amsoil in my 97 dakotani bought. Traded it in on the 12 tacoma. 319,000 miles later no problems ever, just a water pump at 210,000. Only reason traded it in was the deal they gave me for the taco and even with a smashed in bumper and grill on the dakota from a deer i made out pretty well. But i have used mobil 1 in my mower with no problems as well.....

If that is indeed true, you don't want the Toyota brand oil...

Mobil 1 is junk. In all my time using synthetic in my own vehicles as well as freinds' and family's vehicle.... Mobil 1 burns off and become dirty looking the quickest... doesn't matter the weight or viscosity

that's what I read on multiple sites after doin an ol interweb search, toyota=Mobil. I've also heard here and there over the years that Mobil 1 is not all its cracked up to be. Neither one of these issues matter to me though as I'm a cheap Dino oil kinda guy.

It's a bummer that it doesn't take 5w30 or 5w40... I think the best oil hands down Rotella T6 5w40

I'm not saying Amisol is shit, but it definately isn't significantly better than what else is out there for synthetics. Sorry I just have to deal with some guys I talk shop with that, I swear, get off to Amisol literature every night even though one of them has already been burned by going with Amisols extended change warranty. Amisol has consistently refused to show there oils perform any better than anyone else in third parst testing, and the testing that has been done by the odd guy here and there doesn't show anything special about there oil.

That, and I REALLY don't trust a company that claims 20,000 miles on an oil filter is a good idea.

I stopped using Mobil years ago. I'm sure for 99% of people who are following the factory recommended interval any old synthetic will be fine quite honestly. Mobil really went down hill about 10 years ago when they lost there lawsuit with Castrol and decided to follow them in making lower quality cracked base oil synthetic rather than true synthetics. It's a shame, at one time Mobil 1 really was a great product.

5W-30 will also work, it's what my 06 2.7 takes. I think in 2012 they switched to all 0w-20 in nearly all their vehicles. Don't quote me on that though

Well hell yea, i agree any individual that goes that long on a filter or oil needs there head examined. Like others have said, use common sense when changing your oil and you can probably use what ever is recommended for your particular ride. Just personal experiences for me shows amsoil has been a great product for my extended family dating back to the early 80's. We have had NO issues with amsoil ever, and a 3.9 litre dodge v6 that had 319,000 and still going strong is my own personal experience. When my dads gmc hits 500,000 miles ill send an update. When my brothers 1980 Z28 shows 300,000 ill send a pic. All using amsoil....

True. Oil is oil. If it meets the current API certification & is the correct weight for your engine, brand really doesn't matter. No matter what anyone's Dad used in his truck.

When i was in the carolinas last year, i bought some touch up paint at a dealership and figured i would buy some toyota oil and they did not have any. They said, there are not too many diy's anymore and suggested mobil 1. That sorta suprised me, as i have always changed my oil, but whatever.

I bought 10 quarts of Mobil 1 at Walmart on Saturday, $56 including tax...filters come by the case, Wix from Discount Fleet Supply. I haven't lost a motor in normal service in decades, if you don't count old trucks bought with worn out motors...

I usually buy my oil filter from Toyota. And my oil from Walmart (mobile1) for $26 for a 5qt . I notice that Home Depot know sell car oil. Which is about .35 cent cheaper them Walmart. Got to say they are the cheapest. Autozone around the corner from house sell the 5qt for $36. They are crazy.

I always enjoy the "ive used xxx for yyy years with no problems so it's the best" 'evidence'. A majority have everything but xxx for an exponential number of more years, with no problems. When i see miles of broken down vehicles all because they didn't use amsoil, or any other specific band I'll consider switching. Until then, oil is oil.

Same here, 0w20 is for MPG only.

So Toyota made changes to 2TR between the time they recommended 5w30 and 0w20? No. They issued a TSB after the engine had been out for 3 or 4 years saying that owners could use 0w20, then started recommending it in the owners manual for later models. Its for MPG only. Not saying its wrong, 0w20 will protect the engine just fine, but please dont think that it was designed to run that viscosity. You can run 5w30 and be completely fine.
