    Hey guys,

I'm shopping around for my first Tacoma, and I'm wondering which configuration would potentially be the easiest to sell around Vancouver.

I will most likely be buying used, but probably certified from a Toyota dealership since prices aren't much lower when buying directly from an owner, and I'd rather have the peace of mind that comes with a warranty.

I want a light truck to mostly haul around bikes, camping gear, snowboards, etc.. What I would love to get is a TRD Sport double cab 4x4 manual with a short box. I'm not sure if I'll be able to swing that, as I want to pay cash, but I have another 3 or 4 months to save…

If you guys have any other recommendations or advice for a Toyota noobie, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Maybe the 2015. Not being biased but they might have at least worked out some of the kinks from the 2005 + model.

What are some of the kinks in the 2005+ model?

I was asking more specifically about configurations (i.e., 4x4 vs 4x2, access cab vs double cab, short bed vs long bed, TRD, etc.)

I'm doubtful of that. The 2015 I would think is one of the less desired years due to the fact that there is pretty heavy knowledge out there that Toyota somewhat has started cheating out on build quality as the 2nd gen model years have progressed.

We are in the age of information after all. You can learn a lot about something after just an hour or two of research if you look in the right places.

In that case, what model years should I be looking for?

I'm not interested in pouring money into mods, and the reason I *might* need to sell is I could be moving out of the country in a couple of years.

Every particular year from 05-12 and 13 has their strength/ weaknesses. The 05-09's have a real mechanical LSD where the later years have a pseudo LSD where the braking recreates the feel of it. Which I think is pretty damn stupid, but I digress.

The 09-11's had some kind of DRL lens melting and burning problem.

05-07 it could be through 09 but I'm not sure had a problem with weak motor mounts breaking at the frame.

All model years from 05-15 have had a problem with weak axle leaf springs which makes us all susceptible to axle wrap (the click or clunk while braking from the rear end).

As the years progressed some feel like they went more and more plastic on the Tacoma. I think they are right.

Intermediate steering shafts add a lot of wobble and unnecessary play on our trucks. All years seem to be affected by that, the 13's and up seem to be more prone to the complaints.

I am.sure I am leaving a lot of other issues off the table but these are the immediate ones I can think of at 7am. :)

People love the TRD's. Hell I LOVE my TRD. Lol. Yes I'm referring to 2015 being a year not a model. I caught it earlier and was too lazy to change it until you pointed it out. :)

    Ehh seriously.
We don't get the same packages, or choices that you do in the U.S.
We also pay more and right now our $ is at around $.78 vs the U.S.

Basically, Double Cab, 4x4, TRD package (Off-Road or Sport reall doesn't matter). That's your easiest sell.

JK.... whatever you buy, and whatever you do to it, you're going to lose money.... it just depends on how much.

    These are not collector cars.

    Just curious.
How much hassle, fees, etc in buying one in the states and importing it?
Or do they frown on that?

I think your ok resale wise with most 4x4 Tacos. These trucks have a resale value that defy odds. It's kind of a niche size market that Toyota has dominated for years. My son knows a younger guy who just paid $14K for an '02.

You can do it but there is a bit of a process and you need to do a few alterations to the truck plus the Canadian dollar is at $0.80 US right now
