so i know we went into this a long time ago with alfuh, but what would some of you guys estimate to be the cost of 4x4 conversion, with parts and labor?

I would say under 3k if you can find deals.

Ya somewhere around 3-4k if you can find the right parts. I decided I'm gonna keep her 2wd and just lock it up in the rear. I'll eventually be getting a tundra maybe for trailering and then get a toy pickup and SAS it and have that as my mud truck you could say

yea that's not so bad, but tim, do you do your own labor? are we looking at 2K in parts, and 1K in labor? cause i'm rethinking putting all this money in my 2wd, so i tried searching for 4x4 tacomas last night, in white only of course, and nothing reasonable comes up in my price range. and tim what parts do you still have? and what else would i need, as far as big things

I would say, 2-300 in spindles/hubs, 200 in axles (new), 500 for trans, 4-500 for diff, the crossmember can be made by any shop, transfer case would be 500, need driveshafts 3-400, and the acuators, about 800 each for new.

I would be able to do 90% of the work myself and i have a friend who could fabricate anything i would need.

I have a front drive shaft, front diff and front actuator. I will check for other parts but most were sold when I initially tore apart my truck.

If you were to do a fj tcase it would save you money by not needing that acuator. If Wes doesn't buy mine it will also be for sale.

So basically 2500-3500 for parts depending on how good of deals you found, very minimal $ for labor. If someone wanted to convert to a 6 speed i would sell mine as well.

    http://www.4wheelparts.com/Winches-...px?t_c=18&t_s=300&t_pt=100702&t_pn=SWI1595201

    or the smitty?
    http://www.4wheelparts.com/Winches-...aspx?t_c=18&t_s=300&t_pt=100702&t_pn=S/B98495

I like the smitty name better, but I was reading on one of simon's old posts that superwinch has a better rep, and I know jason has a superwinch, and I believe someone else does too

If superwinch has a better rep than smittybilt, I am selling the wrong garbage lol. Get a smittybilt with our ext warranty and not worry about it.

I like my smittybilt winch. I've got the non synthetic version of the smittybilt you linked. Haven't had any issues with mine. Works awesome

Yeah it'll be pricey to find one. I think I found one for almost $750 or $800 or something like that

cool, thanks guys, yea cuse u said tranny $500 on top, so i was like ok... then i thought there might have been some flaw in it or something, yea it doesn't sound too bad, a very viable option if i ever have the balls or the money to go 4wd, cause getting a truck for a few g's extra and then lifting it, would prob all come out the same anyway, so continuing to mod mine isn't a complete waste

Its been done a few times and I don't think it would be difficult at all.
