What's up TacomaWorld I wanted to beef up my stereo system because it blew ball's, but the only thing I didn't want to change was the stock non JBL head unit. I didn't know how I could add an amp or two to the stock head unit, I searched and searched but everything was so incomplete. First you needed to get was a sound processor, good luck with that one, some place's you read people bought some cheap stuff and it worked great for THEM, and when I say cheap I mean cheap like $10-$20 for a processor... While they where trying to push $200- or more 6 1/2 component sets! Well to keep this short and precise I ended up buying an Audison Bit 10 for the processor front speaker's are Hertz HSK 165xl and Hertz HCX 165 for the rear, I already had an Alpine PDX 4-150 and Alpine MRV-500 mono amps.
Now I got all my part's in how do I wire them up, what are the OEM speaker color's? Looked around for wiring diagrams and that was a bitch to, finally when I did find something it had the constant +12v wire wrong, or maybe in my 2015 it's a white wire with a blue stripe on the same harness that you'll find some of the speaker wire's. All you have to do is remember that the speakers are on 2 separate plug's or harness's, easy to find, I'll post all needed stuff in the bottom, I also got the stealth box from JL audio the one with the single 10'. As I come to find out it doesn't fit well kind of before I tried installing it I found someone who had the same problem, don't know what he did but what I did was pushed down while putting some of my weight on it and it went in perfect well almost, but it did fit where it was supposed to, don't be afraid to push it down really hard with all your weight to get it to fit in, no cutting needed. All in all I'm really glad I did it, well worth it. I hope some of this info help's you guys out. Now I just finished up everything including putting back all the door panels and many other panel's where they belong its time to adjust the system, unfortunately it's going to have to wait another day because I'm beat, but it still sounded good with no adjustments and I'm not even joking, can't wait to fine tune it.. Oh I also made my own speaker mount's, I used one of the speakers from the front door for the outline, you would need to do some cutting and breaking, and then I got some 3/4 thick MDF board and cut them out, same with the tweeters but I used a 1/2 fiber glass sheet then I painted them with some black spray paint, and for the back doors i just used the old speaker mount it self, I just ripped out the old speaker and then I screwed the speaker to it held pretty well. I also put some weather stripping behind the speaker mount around the speaker hole on the door and the speaker it self.

Sounds like a nice setup! Do you have an RTA to tune the bit ten with?

So if you keep the stock head unit and get an amp with speaker level inputs. You don't need something like processor correct?

That is correct. The final product will be much better with an audio processor, though.

Why and do they make those processors a little cheaper than that one

A sound processor like the bit ten can take the signal coming from your factory head unit and equalize it to an optimal response before even processing it and sending it to your amplifier. It will also help you assess where your maximum undistorted volume level is on your head unit, and you can set your gain structure accordingly. From there, it can equalize your sound signal to work best with your speaker setup and the cabin acoustics of your vehicle. It also offers time alignment which helps to combat adverse cabin acoustics and imaging, and it opens up the possibility of bi-amplifying, and gives you the best crossover control that you could ask for (band pass, different slopes and frequencies.)

Simply putting the speaker level inputs from your radio into an amplifier does none of that.

There are other sound processors out there for cheaper, but you really do get what you pay for. I'd bee willing to look into a miniDSP for a budget system, but nothing really compares to the Audison Bit processors, from what I've seen.

Thanks for the compliment and as for the RTA, I think you mean DRC? Well i don't think you need it but I might get it later, you can do all your adjustments with a laptop I've heard, I haven't had time yet to mess around with it so I really have no idea but this weekend I will have a better handle on it or if not I'm just going to take it in to a shop to have it done.
and to answer question your here
(So if you keep the stock head unit and get an amp with speaker level inputs. You don't need something like processor correct? )
I would think not, but from what I have read having a high end processor will give the best sound possible. and as of right now I got to say it sound's pretty damn good with no adjustments, also a thought if your spending $500 or more on components set's why not add the extra cash for a better processor? I got the Bit 10, Hertz HSK 165xl, and Hertz HCX 165 for $1000 cash out the door , and 25 ft of 4 gauge power wire.

So it seems cheaper just to upgrade to a real nice head unit. And get a 5 channel amp like a Hertz HDP5, or Focal FPD 900.6 5/6 Channel amp and Focal's all around. I'm not going into competition at any audio sound offs. Probably put a 12 inch sub behind the seats in the Double Cab. Just don't know which shallow mount to go with.

A system made up of components that nice deserves some sound deadening. Also, consider soldering your connections behind the radio. T-taps are pretty ghetto for something this high end.

I would have soldered it but I was tired of not being able to use my truck, having door panels off and stuff. plus it's easy to go back and do some touch ups like that, Thanks for the tip by the way, when I got to the radio in the end I just wanted to finish so I can drive it:D, and as for the deadening goes, I did it to my last truck, and I swore i would never do it again, it may make a little more solid sound but the way Im looking at it right now is , if I can't remove it then it's not going on, plus all that weight, thought about the thins ones though for the back but the doors I'm not touching. I hope!

I wonder if anyone has tried or seen *********.com set up for adding a amp to stock headunit? It seems a hell of a lot better in price plus no splicing or using them ghetto taps, no software for your computer and looks to be just anolog adjustments. I can see how using a computer to adjust the levels can be a bonus but money is where my limitations lie. Anyways, good write up OP!! I will keep this in mind when I'm ready to start my audio work on my 15 DC.

No, the DRC is not used to tune the system. An RTA (real time analyzer) shows you the systems sound response on a digital display. It is used to set the equalization for the best response.

Play it safe when purchasing from Taco-Tunes . I am in the middle of a battle with them . Sure they may have some dedicated Tacoma wiring , but their track records for customer service leave me scratching my head as to why I made a purchase from them . Some members here have been lucky , some not so much . They are " NOT " a vendor at TW
A few links to prove my point of playing it safe to prevent a fellow member from going through some grief.

As for using *********.com for some mdf cut outs for more then a $100 was not worth it, rip off in my opinion, sorry,! I bought the mdf wood for less then $20, also their sound processor is also expensive and it seems to be an off brand product, I rather put my money in something that has a following, couldn't find anybody but tacoma world guys trying to use their sound processor, if you look around from BMW forums or Tundra or whatever forums they all use either audio control, JL soundsweep, or audison, never did I see ********* processer. And as the wiring harness goes, I asked them about it to see if I can just buy the harness but no response and its been like a month.. and as the taps go I don't understand the hate? I've been installing sound systems in my rides since 94, and I have never had an issue, Whats ghetto about it? Who the hell looks behind the radio? Sorry if it's not up to par for you, also I don't need any deadening in my doors maybe in the back because of the bass, Plus I just did the basic tuning using the CD they provided and I cant tell you how wonderful it sound's from classical music to rap music everything is so crisp and clean, best sound I have ever had in any of my ride's and that's no lie... and I've had some nice setups... not as expensive but up there. Also about that RTA compared to the DRC I had no idea it was a total different thing, but to tell you the truth I don't need either, it just sound;s perfect, everybody that's heard it love's it.

No Not really, How much is a real nice Head Unit? $500 or more right! Best one I've seen is the Pioneer premier but it's like $1200 which has a built in dsp and it's a single din. Even those $500 stereo's don't have a built in dsp, and that's what the audison is! Plus if your going to pay $900 for an amp I would go with the higher end Audison amp which I think it costs around $1500 but no rca's it use's fiber optic's or something like that. SICK!!! Just a thought since your changing the head unit, only way it works and its 5 channel's as well.

Well thats a bad ass setup there Shaq!
But what can those of us not on NBA salaries that cant afford $3k sound upgrades do? What can a guy get for around $1,000?
I do want a sub enclosed and the Bit10. Im not looking to be heard 2 blocks away asking the real slim shady to stand up but do like to hear some sweet home alabama as loud as its meant to be heard on occasion. Clearly the stock audio in these trucks is pathetic. But i too want to keep the stock navigation head unit because its better than most aftermarket and is already setup to work on steering wheel and by voice.
I wish i lived nearer to you coleone32, i would pay $20 just to hear that setup being its a sound i cant afford to hear any other way. I think you might have more money in that stereo than i have in my home theater system and that includes a 70" TV.
