Looking to buy a gun safe. Trying to keep it no more than $1000-1200ish. We don't have many guns but would also like it to double to store important documents as well (currently have a small safe for those but want to get rid of it in favor of something we can bolt to the floor). Suggestions? One of the local gun shops is having a massive sale on all safes but have no idea where to start. We also have a Tractor Supply and have seen decent prices there but don't know a whole lot about gun safes to make the leap yet.

...here's a really good all-around guide on safes...
    http://www.6mmbr.com/gunsafes.html

...basically at that price, you're limited in terms of the fire protection levels and security levels.... ..they tend to call it a "safe" beyond the $2000 mark or so :D...

...you'll also want to consider the capacity you're looking for, the space limitations for where you intend to put it, and perhaps even weight... remember, you have to be able to get it into the space!... since I live in rather small quarters, I opted for a "modular safe" that was shipped to me in pieces on a pallet, and i was able to assemble it in the designated space (a closet)... ;)

Cabela's seems to have good quality safes for decent prices. :notsure:

Buy used. You can usually find deals on craigslist. I have a heritage that I love! It was above your price point though.

    back to bone stock.
i got a Sturdy. it is awesome. butt ugly, so i wont put it in a living room as "furniture". it hides nice!

it looks like a vintage bank vault. gray..and ugly. zero frills. but i put the money i saved on aesthetics and added extra armor. i paid just a smidge less than $1000 since i got a smaller safe. for a small safe it was effen heavy!!
