Hey everyone I've read through numerous posts and from what I gather my truck probably won't get great gas mileage. I have a 2010 tacoma access cab TRD offroad. 4.0 w automatic. I do have a 3" lift with 285s. Drive pretty mellow for the most part and also have a K&N filter and flowmaster muffler. I usually average around 14.8 combined but I actually get better MPG around town than on the highway. Sound normal? Besides keeping my RPMs down( which I try to do) any pointers? Thanks

Thanks but that's some info I already found and was curious as to why no matter how attentive to my driving habits I am I'm never close to 18mpg. My MPGs seem to be reversed from normal. Worse on the HGWY than in the city and I keep my truck right at 75mph on the HGWY.

It's those 285s. I was talking with another taco owner yesterday with 285s. He says he's lucky to get 300 miles to a tank. I'm riding 265s and getting 360-417 miles to a tank.

I figured the tires would lower the MPG quite a bit but even with stock tires I never got close to 380miles. I've always used full synthetic oil and good oil filters ever y 3k miles. Had the dealer do a fuel system clean out too. Who knows. I'll keep doing my research. Only have the truck loaded down when I hunt so it's normally an empty bed too.

Tacomas aren't aerodynamic, 75 mph sucks gas, especially with lift and heavy tires.

Yikes dude! I'm installing a 2.5" Billie lift as soon as it arrives in the mail. I plan to go from 265/65r17 to 265/75r16 with tires too. I hope I don't take a big hit on mpg.

    Welcome to TW!
The lift, 285s, 4x4 (engaged or not), all hurt mileage. Use synthetic lubes, ethanol free gas, and I notice you run a K&N filter. If it's the type you oil are you keeping your MAF sensor clean? Being in Arizona are you keeping the K&N clean?

I'm curious how many people have recalibrated their speedometer/odometer for larger circumference tires. If you haven't done this you can't accurately calculate your mileage since your actually travelling further than the odometer is indicating. So maybe your mileage isn't quite as bad as you think. Just a thought.

Yeah I do keep the filter clean and lubricated. Have not recalibrated the speedo as a guy from the dealer didn't think it would make too much of a difference. Should give it shot and just deal with having a sweet looking truck as opposed to a little better MPG. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Thanks for all the input.

How do you do this? Is this something I can do on my own? I've heard of this before, but never looked into it. I'm getting about 220 per tank on 285's. Another dude on here is running 265 and getting exactly the same milage? ? Figure that one....

Toyota speedos are off from the factory. They all read higher than what your actual speed is. IDK if this effects the odo in any significant way.
If you think it'll make a difference, get the miles travelled from a GPS or other independent source.
