Shhh! don't tell him that! My dad's hauler is going to pick the bed up soon, once he gets the bed, he'll have hauled away every part of the gold taco except for fenders and hood.

    :burnrubber:

Does anyone have any ideas for what I should do for the gas filler neck? I wanna find basically the same filler neck as stock, except without the bend at the bottom... Auto parts stores are useless as far as finding something that's not a stock replacement. I think if I find the right filler, I can move it so it's just next to the cab and out of the way.

I was gonna give you a shout - I bought this thingy after seeing it mentioned somewhere in your thread... after having some weird issues with the to-trailer leads not sending any signal outbound, then cutting the leads shorter and finding that it worked... I now have tail lights, brake lights, and both turn signals working just fine* (mostly). Initially, pre-box, I would hit the turn signal and the 3rd brake light would flash...

    * I discovered that for some reason, the built-in diode in the box isn't working *quite* right, so when on the brakes and with the left turn signal on, the light doesn't flash... it just stays solid (passenger side is correct). Then with no turn signal, but applying brakes, the dash turn signal light for left gets like half-illuminated. I might see if I can get in touch with Curt to warranty it.

Last I recall, you had still not 100% sorted out your tail light situation either, but gotten close enough for government work. :D

    @smky...

It's been on my mind all evening - have you thought about adding bed/cargo/work lights to help see cargo on the top deck at night?

I was hoping you had figured out that box for the lights. Mine didn't work at all. I'm currently just running diodes in-line so the signal doesn't back feed. The issue is that the brake lights over ride the turn signals.

It works for now, but it's definitely not the best solution. I hope you figure out a fix.

Cargo lights are definitely on the list. I'm planning on hooking up a couple of flood lights to my roof rack for that purpose. I'm even considering adding a camera to the rack so I can monitor the load in the bed. :D

It might be worth picking up another box, the multiple issues I had with mine kind of make me suspect there could be some hit-or-miss issues on that end. The passenger lights work perfectly, so I think there might just be some small thing that I can't see on the circuit board. I'll see if I can get another box for free, or just buy another and see if that improves anything, I'll let you know if there's any improvements with a new box.

I forgot you had that rack, I'm envious about that thing... I haven't pulled together the motivation to mock up a 1st gen version of the Prisnu racks. I'd love to own one of those. I should have kept the old roof and played around with that. Without a roof rack I'm kind of uncertain what I want to do for lighting back there, I could probably convince myself to pick up a pair of these and bolt them to either side of the 3rd brake light - and maybe a third facing forward mounted to the inside of the spare tire carrier.

I had such a great setup with the topper and stock bed, this is a detail I totally overlooked with this.

I actually might try two boxes, one for each side. Maybe that will work. If you come up with anything let me know.

The last two days were productive, despite not feeling incredibly so.

Yesterday, I finished welding every joint on the frame, then had to clean and dress all the welds I cared about making smoother, strip the mill scale, cut/prep/strip rust off the sheet metal filler to the headache rack, and wire wheel the whole thing. At that point I got started on the final little detail for the steel, to which the rub/tie down rails were welded to.

Today, I chopped the standoffs for the rails, capped the tubes (with my super ghetto, super slick tube cap), and got everything prepped for paint.

I decided to stick with spray paint on the steel for now, and 'liner on the wood, mostly because of all the wonky surfaces I'd have to deal with on the frame. Al's liner was pretty terrific to work with, easy to mix and easy to roll on, it cured with a terrific texture and I'm really happy with the results, I managed to get three coats on the platform, hopefully that'll be enough.

I'll get proper pictures here in the next few days, the box didn't fit despite my best efforts, so at some point I'll need to go back and modify it to fit better, but I'm in need of a break from this.

Here's everything getting a coat of Al's liner and letting the spray painted frame set up before moving it around a bunch more.

One final note: this thing is heavy. Probably about the same as the stock bed, if not more, once I get the box in.
Hmm. I'll give a new box a try when I motivate myself accordingly, and if it works I'll give you a shout.

I'll be doing a relocation here shortly, hopefully before I go do the white rim.

I need to do it, searching for ideas on geometry. I have the 5125's and some tubing for the crossmember... Can't find anyone who has documented very well.

Great build so far, I can't wait to see your new bed once complete and installed.;)

I'm in the same boat. I'm planning on doing similar to what box rocket did, I like his setup. I'll try to document it for ya.
