I like the SR5 grille the most... how's that for a hot take?

I won't be changing the stock grille on my '21 OR though, remember how great stock trucks from 20+ years ago look? Especially when they've been well cared for? Stock FTW.

Who is buying it to be unique? It's a factory grille. Bottom line is there are two real options - the factory (non-pro) grille that looks like complete shit, or the Pro grille that looks great. It's a no-brainer. It's not about being unique. At least not for me.

Some folks seem to be trying to complicate or turn the situation into something it's not. One grille looks incredible, the other looks like crap. It's that simple. Given literally almost every Tacoma on the road (at least here in San Diego) ends up getting the pro grille, I'm guessing most aren't getting it to be unique.

It's OEM, not stock if it ain't an actual Pro! I'm a lowly pleb with a TRD off-road haha

To each their own. That's what makes the community better I guess is that not everyone wants exactly the same thing... Though it is hard to tell with all the clones driving around.

Exactly. It's only stock on a Pro. Otherwise you are just doing an OEM upgrade, just like all the F150's putting on Raptor grills.

Haven't read the first 16 pages of this thread, but in case nobody has mentioned yet, the overlay option on the stock grille's are way cooler, IMO. It actually gives a custom look, which I dig.

You see so many of them b/c they look better than the stock offerings of the lower trim levels.

It was a personal choice for me based on vanity and whimsical nostalgia. I like the way it looks and i appreciate the fact it pays homage to the old LC front ends.

    Nothing more. Nothing less.

Went back and checked, nobody had posted the overlay thing. Here’s mine on an SR5 grille, and just plastidipped the previously chrome bezel.If/when I decide I don’t like it, I can just take it off or change the design.

Toyota sells aftermarket TRD parts for their trucks so people can personalize them and Toyota can cash in it as well. The problem is that everyone else is doing the same thing and instead of having something different we are all back to looking the same. If you want to be different think outside of the box. It doesn't matter if its done with chrome or in black do something that makes your Tacoma stand out and not look like everyone elses. Back in the 80s they used to say "Dare to be Different" when they were building cars because everyone just seems to follow the current trend.

I thought I would put a heritage grill on my Nightshade once it came in, but after seeing the Nightshade Grill I’m going to leave it as is.

All these stupid Tacomas with the same shark fins, and the same tailgates, and the same engines, and same seats, floormats, door handles, steering wheels, mirrors, etc... It’s almost like we all have the same truck.

For me, the cheese grater had to go. Went with a $65 eBay fro grille which came sans letters, guess you get what you pay for. Ordered those and paid another $30 or so? Then spent an hour or two drilling the grille to mount the letters and front camera. It was enough of a PIA that I don’t think I’d replace it, definite improvement, definitely not special. At least it doesn’t say pro on it like my darn headlights.

I agree. For 21's at least, I like the look of the Nightshade the best. I have absolutely no plans to ever replace.

This guy gets it. Reminds me of the right hand drive import FJ45 I used to have. Toyota should’ve devolved their trucks away from the corporate T and back to TOYOTA branding a loooong time ago.
