“Status: In Transit”. But no VIN?

Hey guys,

my salesguy said that my taco should be here next week. ETA says October 20-25. However, we still do not have the VIN even though the status says “in transit”. From what I’ve seen here you should be able to see it after the truck is built. Have anyone experience this? I live in Vancouver, Canada if that makes a difference. TIA.

 

Maybe it's a Canada vs. US thing, but I was able to get a temporary VIN during manufacturing and another VIN when it was built.

 

Yeah it's weird, most of the people from the US got their temporary VIN a few days after getting allocation. However, my taco has been in transit for at least 2 weeks now, and I still don't have any VIN. Just the ETA and VTN (I don't know what that is.) Oh well, hopefully I get the Taco next week.

 

Same for me except no VTN. Dealership was all about communication (temp. VIN, packages, build date, delivery window, etc.) until I put down that deposit and then crickets. Kinda frustrating. I didn't think to ask for VIN after the build. I just emailed them asking for one so we'll see what they say.

 

I didn't even get a temporary Vin for mine. Let me know what the say.

 

My dealer sent me the VIN this morning. Their website started showing the same truck as "in-transit" as well. Kinda concerns me that they have my truck on their website as soon-to-be inventory. Why advertise a truck that I said I would buy and already put a deposit on?

 

Dealers use this as click bait--I've been pulled in a few times. You call and they say it already has a deposit on it--but they have something different you might like and would be happy to put you on their list . . . .

Never got a VIN number till I had the truck ownership in my hands. I live in Canada too so this is normal.I was given a delivery date the day I ordered it and it came in on that date.

 

True. I had forgotten that the exact same thing happened to me as well. That makes me feel better. Thanks for reminding me.

 

Dealers, Dealers they like to play mind games on people. Some you can trust others well what can I say.
All the years that I have been dealing with my Toyota Dealers 1993- 2021 have been great no BS no lying and mind games. I went in made the deals got the vehicles within days. This last truck was a waiting period because of the Covid but was aware of that and the dealer was honest about it too. Nothing hidden and that is the way it should be. Just saying

 

Update:

I actually get my truck today so the ETA was right, however I didn't get a VIN at all. I don't know if this is normal in Canada. But yeah she's supposed to be here today!
