03 DC Prerunner to 4wd

    I'm starting my search for parts to do a 4wd conversion on my Prerunner. Any input from people who have done this before on things to look for or advice? I won't actually be doing the conversion until this summer but I'm doing the research and gathering parts now.

    Here's my list of things I need as of now, anything else?

    1. 4wd transmission (make sure it's from a vehicle with the same motor you have)
    2. Transfer case
    3. Front diff
    4. CV's with matching spindles (either manual hubs or ADD)
    5. Front driveshaft
    6. Interior components (shifter for the t-case, console, new shift boot)

OME 883# on Tundra 5100's, OMD custom 3" leafsprings, rear shock relocation, Ivan Stewart TRD rims w/285/75/16's, '02 bumper MOD, Famous Fabrications sliders , LED interior/exterior lights, bed bar, Custom tube bumper, Old school KC day lighters,Red Ring 8" HID flood, Kenwood vhf 2M.. umm some other shit I'm forgetting right now
    Not sure about the electronics, I'd think a ECU at minimum...:notsure:

    That's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure. All of the threads I have seen, they didnt need a new ECU.

    4wd transmission (make sure it's from a vehicle with the same motor you have)
    2. Transfer case Trans and TC don't have to be from an 03 only you can get an 04 to work as well. You probably have the throttle by wire, so you would need a full electronic trans, don't forget that the trans mount is different for the 4wd setup, auto and 5sp are different.
    3. Front diff Determine if you want the ADD or non ADD front diff. One has the actuator ADD that you will need to wireup (will give you the option of 3WD if you have a front locker and the rear locked), while the non is just a tube. Also make sure you get the 3 front diff mounts and bolts that hold it in, alot of sales don't have these parts.
    4. CV's with matching spindles (either manual hubs or ADD) new ball joints as most cases these are trashed, if manual hubs make sure you get the hubs that are in working order
    5. Front driveshaft make sure to get the bolts
    Rear driveshaft front section (TC to support bearing). There is one length for 5sp and one for auto. I think the Auto is 1in longer than the 5sp
    6. Interior components (shifter for the t-case, console, new shift boot)

    Pretty much ditto as above.

    The '03 and '04 trannys are indeed drive by wire. If staying auto, do yourself a huge favor and get yourself a tranny from an '03 or '04 Tacoma 4x4.

    Xfer case wont matter but iirc, all the dcab 4x4 xfer cases are the multimode or push button 4wd (on the stick) type. Make sure if you want that or one of the other types--the most popular one seems to be the j-shift cause its fully manual operation for each position (2high, 4high, and 4low).
