hey guys so im looking to start taking care of my truck myself rather than taking it to the dealer to see if that saves any cost. i would like to do any simple maintenance at home and i guess i could take it to the dealer and have them inspect it for free and tell me if it "needs" anything else

i want to start off with doing a simple oil change. i was thinking about ordering some amsoil and a filter from them or possibly a local dealer of amsoil (not the stealership but a separate dealer)
so does 6qts of this and an oil filter sound like a good start?
    http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=ASLQT-EA

what other simple maintenance can i do? what other oils can i change over to full synthetic to prolong the life of my taco? the only ones i could think of were my power steering and i heard about rear dif as well?

for engine coolant can you mix colors? mine has pink from the last time i got it serviced (earlier this year around march) at the dealer. but it was getting low and i have a jug of green coolant in the garage.

    questions, comments, concerns?

6 quarts yes but you will only use around 5.5.

Do not mix coolant types. If you plan on using a different coolant than what's already in the truck, make sure to flush the entire system. I used distilled water for flushing.

Do you have a prerunner or 4x4? Sorry if I missed it, I'm on my mobile.

Below is a maintenance list you can look into if it's time. If you don't know when the last time any of these have been done, you might as well perform all tasks and have a fresh start. Feel free to do a search, ask questions here, or you can even PM me if you need help with anything.

    Motor oil
    Replace intake air filter
Diff oil (front and rear if you have 4x4)
    Transmission oil
    Grease driveline
    Spark plugs
    Clean MAF and TB
    Inspect brake and steering fluid
    Inspect brake pads

I'm sure I missed something... People chime in! :)

When changing oil, don't forget to get a new crush washer!

Transfer case oil if you have 4x. Inspect drive belts for wear. Replace if necessary.
