I realize there is a ton of threads out there about this swap and I've definitely read a bunch but im
Still looking for some solid information on the best ECU/ engine harness route for my double cab Manual swap. Everything mechanical is done. Still waiting on the clutch to arrive so I can install the transmission.

    04' Double cab V6 4x4
Parts truck is 03' Xtra cab V6 4x4

I have the whole parts truck on hand. What is the best route to go here?

Use the 03' manual engine harness and ECU? If so, what SPECIFIC other splicing is needed?

Use the auto harness and the 03' manual ECU? I would have to repin or depin some plugs, correct? Any other splicing?

Or just stick with the auto harness and the auto ECU? If so, I'd get a CEL correct? Any other splicing?

I would like the clutch start cancel to be functional.

I would like cruise control to be functional aswell. What is needed for that?

As of right now, i test fitted the manual engine harness in the body plugs of my double cab. They fit but, the manual engine harness dose not have a 3rd body plug which the auto harness has.
Manual engine harness has a total of 5 plugs..3ECU AND 2 BODY PLUGS
AUTO HARNESS HAS A total of 6. 3 ECU AND 3 BODY PLUGS.
Will this work missing that other plug? I'd like to run the manual engine harness and manual ECU.
I have access to the diagrams needed but honestly not sure how to wire in the clutch switchesIMG_20210610_193749534.jpg Manual harness plugged into double cab body plugs.
    Thanks for any help!IMG_20210610_193749534.jpgIMG_20210610_193800335.jpg
    Auto body plugs

    Anything else I'm missing?

    Thanks for the help!

Following because I have an 04 DC that I’d love to swap a 5MT into.

Huge favor to ask: can you please update this thread as you find answers?

Everything I've read is that you will get CELs if you don't swap to manual ECU. Here's some prior threads with some helpful info (obviously cross-reference your own manuals before cutting wires all willy-nilly).

As far as splice/CSC goes this was in @sd_N 's build:

"Now is a good time to get all basic functions of the wiring completed while you have room to work. This will allow you to start the truck. Take the largest plug, find the black with red stripe wire and black with white stripe wire, cut from plug. I slit the wire loom all the way up to steering rack area. Then take about 24 inches of the 20 gauge wire, you’ll need 2 pieces 24 inches long. Connect the wires very well using a connector then heat shrink then electrical tape to make sure these wires don’t get wet or corrode. Tape them up nice and need and zip tie them neatly so they’re out of the way of moving parts or any debris. Run them thru the floorboard rubber plug toward the left kick panel then connect them to the corresponding wires on the clutch pedal start switch."

There's a couple extra helpful threads about:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/99-tacoma-4x4-auto-to-manual-swap.531994/page-4
    https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160/1995-5-2004-tacoma-t-vs-m-t-ecu-pinouts-215718/
Excited to hear about the process when you're done - would like to do this myself at some point for funsies

also @Madjik_Man, if you ever get around to trying the swap and need an extra set of hands let me know, curious to see it done in person

The issue with running different years wiring harness and ecu is they are different. The pinouts on the ECU change every year.

From everything I've read the auto ECU will function just fine but with a cel. I went with a manual ecu and de pinned what was not needed. I also kept the auto wire harness and added/spliced what was needed. I wired in the switch for cruise control, but not the clutch cancel switch, on the clutch peddle. Instead I've got an aftermarket switch spliced in that's basically a kill switch. If you want more details let me know.

And @Madjik_Man get off your lazy ass and get it done! There's no way us TWers will let you fail.

you might want to check and see if there is a shop that can re-flash the ECU, that is,reprogram it for the 5M. If so, then you don't have to rewire anything.

Need a garage first. Never ending build from hell is killing me.

Then I need my new best friend from Alabama to come out for a mod day in said garage

A garage does help. I'd be so down. I'm headed up to Wyoming in a couple weeks.....but I don't think the wife would be happy with me. But that would be a fun trip. Fly up there, help out for a few days, then hit the real mountains.
