Finally found the weak link of in the 9" ifs swap, naturally it was the one part i was hoping wouldn't be an issue. To fit the 9" clamshell between the frame i had to shorten the tundra a.d.d. shaft, took like 4 moths to get done between the machining and heat treating, making it the only part in the swap that i couldn't build myself, or easily replace if it failed. Well after some 10 moths of abuse something had to give, unfortunately it was the a.d.d. shaft.

Decided i didn't want to deal with this again and started developing something with a bit more heft. Download fusion360, watched some youtube videos, and cobbled together a decent looking part.

Had my buddy print some test parts so i could verify some stuff

Finally had a the splined end test cut out of 6061 just to make double sure the dimensions were right before spending the money to have it done in cromo.

Final part will be machined from 4340
O.D. of the smallest part of the shaft is 47mm vs 32mm on the modified tundra shaft.

Should be in my hands in a week of so. Still need to find someone to do the heat treating if anyone has any suggestions.

Final product. Pretty hefty part! Still trying to find a company that will heat treat it, everyone I’ve called will only do high volume jobs. If anyone has any recommendations I’d sure appreciate it.

Blew out another 8” e-locker rear so I decided to beef things up a bit. Picked up a tundra 10.5 rear. This thing makes the 8” rear look like a toy.

For future reference because I couldn’t find it when I was looking in to these axles, a second gen (07-21) tundra 10.5 axle width is 72” wms-wms.
Pinion mounting surfaces to axle centerline is only .875” longer then an 8” e-locker.
Stripped down axle with no brackets or brakes weights 274 lbs.

If you blow it up again, JD Fab can make a full floater 9". Though a 10.5 may be sturdier. :notsure:

Got the third set up, 5.29s and an arb. Axle’s all cleaned up and painted. Still gotta finish converting it to 6 lug, do a little bit of wiring, and plumbing.

I had one apart last weekend and it has larger bearings and looked larger compared to the ultracase 10" race gear I run in my camburg housing. The third also was alot heavier weighing like 120 lbs. Should be strong enough.

Finally got around to installing the transgo hd2 shift kit after it sat on my shelf for about 2 years. Wasn’t too bad of a job took an evening to knock out. Went with the truck settings and I’m pretty happy with it. Definitely an improvement over stock though personally I wouldn’t mind if the part throttle was a bit firmer and the full throttle was a bit softer.

Trans cooler setup I did a while back. Big Hydac 12x12x3 hydraulic cooler (repurposed from cement mixer), inline thermostat, and 12” thermostatically controlled spal fan. Repurposed old trans cooler to ps cooler and mounted it in front.

Had some free time and some scrap laying around so I finally built myself an air box. Went ahead and topped it off with a nice pre-cleaner.
