The e brake does kill the DRL.

When I had this issue, before I knew about the e brake, I had to go through the wires again. I clipped off what I did, put the green/red tracer wire back to together to to be sure that the DRLs worked.
    I feel your frustration.
I wish I had an easy answer for ya.

I was almost to that point.

You definitely saved me a lot of aggravation and time. I had no idea about the e brake. I checked the wires under the dash again, and one of the ends of the wire looked very thin. I cut that off and stripped some more of the coating off. I attached a new connector, but still no luck.

I just went out to take the switch out and short the wires together. SUCCESS!!!!

Looks like I'll be buying a new switch in the best future. I think I'll pass on the cheap radio shack switch this time around.

I wish you were closer so i could buy you a beer. Rep coming your way!

So I checked this morning before going to work. My DTRLs were on, so I pressed in the e-brake and the lights stayed on. [IMG]

Looks like we both have 2011 models...

Glad you got it figured out. Are your DRL lenses burnt and cracked?
If so, see if your VIN falls in the TSB to have your front light housings replaced.

DTRL's stay on once it's triggered. you have to shut off the vehicle to reset the system. that is what i have to do for a manual... autos, i am unsure of.

On Manuals, E-brake has to be set before turning on a vehicle. they stay off till you disengage the E-Brake.

Why they would set it up like that is beyond me. I'm going to test when i go out to my truck to go home and see if that is the case.

That certainly could have been some of the cause of frustration.

Confirmed. With the parking brake engaged, the lights do not come on when the truck is first started.

For anyone doing this mod, please make sure you do not have the e-brake engaged when testing!

Perhaps someone can help me out... I bought the following switch to perform this mod.
    drl_switch_6c67edeae260772e79f4d736be75f735cf558a9c.jpg

However, the size is not a direct fitment to place in one of the OEM spots to the left of the steering wheel. It is smaller than the Tacoma switches.

Is there a way to utilize this switch without any cutting or trimming? Or if so, perhaps take a blank switch cap, and use a dremel tool to insert this switch into that spot. Or maybe a trim piece such as the following... any help would be greatly appreciated.

What about the switches under the A/C controls?

Just did this on my 2012 Tacoma and it worked flawlessly! Thank you for the info as I did not like the DTL. It was a bit of a pain to access the harness but, with some patience and a little luck, I was able to make it work.

Hated DRLs on all the time so I did the same thing to my 2012. I wanted the ability to turn them off as desired so I got an OEM Fog Light Switch. I had to cut a little inside the hole the switch goes in but after that, it fit perfectly.

Once the switch was in and the wires in place, I found the Green/Red DRL wire and it was as described here but the other two wires were not red. Cutting the Green/Red wire disabled the DRLs but I can't get to it to splice in the switch.

After I got the switch in and wrestled with the splices, I saw this thread that shows how to remove the fuse box and I should be able to get to the harness this way: LINK

    Parts needed:
-OEM Toyota Fog Light Switch Part Number: 0050-35976
    -22-18 Splice Wire Connectors
    -22 AWG wire
-12-10 AWG .250 Tab Vinyl FM. Disconnect
    -Wire Stripper

OK, FINALLY got the switch in, wired and working! Does the orange light come on when I press the switch? - No. Do I care? No. The DRLs can now be turned on or off as desired and that was the goal.

Not really knowing the best way to do this, it was a royal pain. Once I figured out the best method, it was not that big a deal, you just have to really be flexible to get under the dash and have a lot of patience. Here is how I did it:

    -Remove the bottom dash
-Remove the 3 bolts holding in the fuse box and unplug as much as you can
-Position the fuse box so that you can remove the harness
    >Do NOT try to splice in the switch with the harness attached, trust me.

Once the harness is removed, you can EASILY cut and splice the Green/Red wire

What I did to make things easy is splice 12" extensions onto the original Green/Red wire.

This way, you can reassemble everything and leave the wires hanging out to work with.

Once everything is reassembled, trim the wires and splice the switch into the harness. The wires can then be tucked into the fusebox. There may be more efficient ways of doing this but I'm not a pro and it's working now.

Hi all, I could really use some help as I've managed to completely overload my simple mind with all the information in here.

I'm about to do the DRL Install (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/1475-05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.html on my '08 DC and have the parts on hand.

I decided that while I was at it, I might as well also do the Enable/Disable Switch at the same time. To do so, I ordered this AOB Switch from eBay [IMG] to keep it as stock looking as possible.

Unfortunately, this is where I've frazzled my simple brain and for the life of me, can't figure out which leads on this switch would go to which sides of the cut green/red wire? I've attached the switch wiring diagram here and would be grateful for any input! Thank you!

All you should do is take the cut wire and put one end into the switch connector and then the other wire to the out put. All the switch is doing is "cutting" the green/red wire and then "connecting" the green red wire. the 12v input is for the lights on the button, then there is a ground wire so the light will light up. I am about to do this mod with my 2015, but with the LED bar attached under the head light. I will take some photos if you need some more help.

That's what I initially thought but the more I stared at the crazy wire diagram, the more confused I became! I actually went ahead and just wired in a mechanical switch in the meantime so that I wouldn't have to back to the green/red wire in the future. Pictures are not necessary (although it might help someone else out in the future) but would love to hear back on your success!

Great visual, caribe makaira! Thank you for the wiring diagram!

I'm out of the country for the next few weeks but will definitely wire in the DRL switch when I return!
