Doesn't look that bad. Surface rust. I think mine looked like that at the 5 yr mark.

I've got the same year and same mileage, and my frame looks exactly like that too :(

The reason construction companies supply material is because we warranty it. This isn't me complaining about a wheel bearing going bad faster because my lift its a frame material failure.

thats worse than my 08' with 94k on it.

you guys really need to start doing some preventative maintenance.

It's not like the past 20 years worth of Toyota pick up frames hasn't rusted out. No way in hell should a 2011 look like that IMO.

We all know the frames are crap so start taking care of them.

Have you looked beside each catalytic converter? Seems to be a common area for perforation.

X2. I don't understand how they can keep buying crap frames. There must be a lot of stupid people with no common sense getting paid a lot of $$ to make these decisions. I wish I knew how to get a jobs like that.

Had my 2005 double cab frame inspected. Dealership said it passed and then sprayed it. Does spraying rust with a "rust inhibitor" really work ? If something starts to rust from the inside out isn't it a little late for a rust inhibitor ? I'm no metallurgist but I can probably assume my frame is on borrowed time.

I'm curious with all this spraying - do the just spray the outside of the frame or do they also spray the inside ? My 1st gen rusted thru from the inside so I bet they don't bother with that. I ass-u-me they just spray over all the rust to cover it up and make it pretty. Probably a waste of time. Thanks for any reply. Curious George

I got this from Toyota when I asked .... Is this what you mean??

"You are correct that a Customer Support Program has been issued for the Tacoma and that program extends the warranty for frame corrosion for 15 years, unlimited miles but it is specific to the 1995 - 2004 model year Tacoma trucks. "

I just used brush on Rustoleum rust reformer on all the portions of rust I could not sand down. Time will tell if it works. I then top coated with automotive primer followed by rubber undercoating (I would not recommend it - I just used it to hide the rust because I have given up), and top coated that with gloss spray paint.

I will never touch my frame again....after 4 years of sanding and spraying I'm done. My 18 YO Ford Explorer's frame is in better shape and I'm just doing this last painting to hold off the inevitable replacement.

Hope they eventually have the same program for the 2005-2013 because the frames are no better then the 1995 - 2004.

I stopped by a local dealer yesterday to browse their used Tacoma selection. First of all, they want stupid money ($26 K) for a '07 90,000 mile A/C in well used condition- others on the lot were similarly (over)priced. There was significant frame corrosion on 3 of the 4, and the 4th had huge chunks flaking off. I even checked under a used FJ and was concerned about it's future. Compared to similar year and mileage Xterra's and Fronty's (which look pretty sound), this is a concern if you are buying a used Tacoma from MI. I will expand my search to drier climates.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but I just received the "bring in your Tacoma so we can check your frame for rust" letter. I have some surface rust going on, but my biggest concern is that I just had sliders welded on a few months ago. Is that going to affect the way the dealership treats me? I have a picture or two from right before the installation of the sliders showing some surface rust, but nothing too in depth.

I was thinking I would let them inspect it, and since they (hopefully) won't find anything wrong with it, just let them spray the POR15 or whatever the treatment they're offering is.

    Advice would be appreciated.

Here is my take, if you have an area that has corrosion on it that is no where near where you sliders were welded on then there should not be an issue, however if you they do find something serious within the general vicinity of the welds you know they are going to cover their ass.

my advice if the sliders were done at a quality shop then bring in all the paperwork to show the dealership that it wasn't done buy a group of guys in their garage drinking beers on the weekend

First part I agree with, and am hoping that it's the case. Second part is going to be hard to do because it was totally welded in a garage, and there was probably beer involved.

well hopefully you can get a good working relationship with the dealership and it wont be an issue,

common sense would say they (the dealership) knows there is a good majority of guys out there who mod their truck in some way shape or form, hell I will bet dollars to donuts that the tech performing the inspection has the same mod as you...but I am sure there are incentives for a good ratio of sprayed to replaced frames from corporation...either way good luck to you
