So, are any of you with good frames taking steps to try to keep them that way?

My 2011's frame still looks flawless, and I'd like to do what I can to keep it that way. Someone suggested spraying it with bedliner. I've just been trying to keep it clean so far.

My boss's '06 SR5 DCSB looks horrible. Just from what I can see from the sides there is virtually no paint left on the frame. Totally covered in rust. Body is fine. No rust or paint issues there other than some scratches and stuff that it's gotten over the years. He's got an appointment to have Toyota look at it.

Know another guy who had a Gen 1. Toyota replaced the frame and he was pleased enough that they were doing that that he bought a brand new Tacoma for himself while it was in the shop and gave the Gen 1 to his daughter when the frame was swapped. She's still driving it.

All the posters from salt and rust free areas like to slather fluid film on things. Personally I think you can put off or slow down the surface rust but the delamination and sandwiched areas are another story.

So are the frames the same as they currently install, or have they done anything to the new ones to prevent this?

New ones (09 and up I think) are a different frame manufacturer. I think they're still somewhat of an Achilles heel, but not as much as the 05-08s. Read through a few threads and you should get a better idea.

No salt - no rust. Toyota even thinks about salt and rusts.

Got the recall ...2007 Dbl Cab Long Box 4x4 TRD Yamaha Edition with less than 80 000KM!!!

Oil sprayed EVERY year by a top quality guy...

If I need a new frame with the LOW mileage and the oil spray, a lot of folks will need one as well...

I'm in Ottawa, Canada so we have snow and salt.

folks that are in NY will need to write to their respective local Attorney General's office to start the litigation process to get the E0D campaign approved in your state.

in your letter, specifically mention the campaign, your situation, safety concerns, and that your vehicle will not pass inspection with holes in your frame.

additionally, you should file a complaint with the nhtsa. this will create an investigation into the problem and may warrant further action on the part of Toyota

Got an email today that they will be completing the recalled frame within the next 6 months! Bout damn time. This is how the phrased it -

We looked into the frame question on the Tacoma and the good news is help is on the way. Your frame will fall under a limited service campaign LSC-EOD which Toyota has started to roll out in mid May. Toyota has already launched this out in the Boston region with area's being added as availability increases for frames and rust resistant compound. They have not given us an exact date as to when this will begin in our region which is Central Atlantic, but based on past experiences normally it's not beyond six month's. I would encourage you to register your information if you have not at Toyotaowners.com this will insure that any correspondents from the manufacture reach you in a timely manner. I will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

2005 Tacoma reg cab 4x4with major rust issues. holes is frame. would not pass pa state inspection. what pisses me off the most is the dealers attitude of there's nothing we can do. only 47,000 miles on it. now I have to play the waiting game.

This thread is depressing. 47k and rusted out like that. I hope they got their sh*t together with the 2013 frames, but they probably didn't. Sooner or later I'll be in this boat...

wow my 2009 has the same mileage and the frame still looks brand new. no rust at all anywhere. i live in the southeast though not the northeast.

if i saw that i think i would trade my truck in for a nissan frontier.

at least toyota will replace it with a new frame.

These frames are rusting from the inside out, I was changing the oil and saw some heavy blisters, pressed my thumb right through it. I went to town with a ballpeen hammer and a cutoff wheel. I FILLED a large ziplock bag with damp rust scale the first time I cleaned it out.
I was gonna weld it up but what's the point just gonna keep it raw and start emailing the NTSB, if we all join up hopefully we will get the recall.
Sucks though I love the damn truck just wish the frame wasn't so trash.
