Took my 05 Crew cab in for inspection on Aug 1st, was told I needed a new frame. Was scheduled to bring it in on Monday 25th, frame didn't get there until Thursday the 28th. Told the dealer I would drop it off on Tuesday Sept. 2nd. Will see how it goes.

Live in Louisville,KY. They use salt in the winter. I've sanded, wire brushed and spray painted frame over the years. First pic is the money shot that got my new frame, next to drivers side catalytic converter, second is from muffler area, third is of one of the two lines of rust spots on garage floor

What company made the frames for Toyota? It was reported that Dana had made the earlier frames with the rust problem. If so they also make frames for a lot of other American trucks. Correct me if I am wrong.

Took a week to replace my frame. Night and day difference in how it rides now. I still had the old 3 leaf rear spring before, now have a 4 leaf. Steering is tighter, ride is much smoother. No sqeak when I get out of it anymore.
Tried to read the cashier's invoice (upside down to me), looked like they charged $12,317, plus $210 for rental. If you get the chance, do it

I should post pics of mine. I have quite a bit of rust on my frame. I wonder if mine would be able to be replaced.

How it rides has nothing to do with the new frame. Replacing bushings and other wear items caused that. Maintenance is your friend

I disagree, to an extent. If the rear portion of the frame is rusted that bad, you will have lost some structural supportive steel allowing for more frame flex. I can watch the rear of my truck wiggle and jiggle over big bumps. I can also feel the deflection thru the whole truck.
On another note, PA is very close to having its LSC issued. I talked to a service mgr just 30 min ago. He was very informative.

I do suspect that this has a LOT to do with the "Quality" of the technician. Working on electro mechanical stuff for many many years I have had few items assembled/repaired by me come loose. And in most cases it's because I should have assembled it differently (Star washers, used a torque wrench, RTFM, etc.)

After all, someone had to put it together in the first place.... :D

Did the dealer charge you for any other parts?
My dealer wants $3500 for things "not covered" including rack and pinion rotors etc. I think they are hosing me.

DoorDing, I payed $0. You get a new frame, lower control arms and hardware, new 4 leaf rear springs, and brake lines. Anything else, dealer is trying to make more money.

There are a couple post in this thread or other similar threads where this is discussed AND they posted the parts changed (attached files I believe) some may have cost and final cost to customers. From what I remember MANY paid $0 but some paid a little. I suggest you search for these and print out the most relevant / review and discuss with the Dealer. If he sill does not budge I'd go the Dealer owner/Corp. I'd try real hard not to pay if I did not have to. I understand some parts may not be directly needed for the frame change, but They put the bad frame in there and you may have kept it in better shape if the frame was not rotting out. Sounds like good PR to help the customer here when they created the whole situation ...

Are the replacement frames identical to the original? And is Toyota applying any coating on these new frames?

I had a 2006 double cab sb and the motor mount busted off the frame. Not a rust issue but Toyota wouldn't cover it.

    Ok, many valid Points taken.

Perhaps it would be best that when the dealer agrees you will get a new frame have the dealer fully inspect and "quote" anything that that you must pay to have the service (front end, brakes, shocks , etc., etc.).

If this is done before they start you should have a chance to check it yourself, take it to another mechanic or fix /replace stuff yourself. At least you will know where you stand before all the fun starts .....
