In the official notification I received by mail there was also a slip for me to fill out if frame work had already been done prior to the service bulletin and other parts / work were required at that time.

I believe this may give me the chance to get reimbursed for the control arms we paid for at the time of frame swap.

When I get a chance I will scan the paper and get it up here.

This is yet another reason to be sure you are correctly registered with Toyota Corp / toyota owners website.

So you have to wait until the holes are larger to 10mm to get a new frame...

Yes, that was the deal w/ gen 1's too. You could always tap w/ a hammer around the hole.

Albany, NY here. Went to Lia Toyota yesterday. Failed the frame inspection and they took pictures to send to Toyota. The guy said there's a very good chance of getting a new frame (if they didn't I would have to take legal action). They said they should get back to us in a few weeks at most. I saw the same paper that was posted above. He said he would give it to me upon approval of the frame replacement.

How funny. My svc rep said I would hear back by Tuesday. He also said that my leaf springs & lower control arms weren't included yet the paper clearly shows that they are. Btw, also at Lia

Hmm I think he meant at the longest it would be 2 weeks. Or maybe that the frame would be here in 2 weeks. Either way I'm happy. And I just got ome leafs so I didn't ask about that.

So far mine doesn't appear to be in bad shape. I did notice the original holes seems to have accumulated a fair amount surface rust over the last few months though.

You point out the obvious, and nobody in these forums has been able to answer it with any authority, and that is, "what has Toyota done to rectify this outrage on 2013, 2014, and 2015 Tacos, if anything?

From what I have seen in these pictures folks, you are wasting your time with sprays and undercoatings, in fact in many cases making things worse by sealing in the corrosion! What I have seen is frame rot from the inside out, and you can't stop that with any sprays or undercoats, its analogous to fighting stage four cancer with sugar pills....

Also, you guy's with the rusting issue need to post the exact year and model of Tacoma in each post, make it part of your sigline! This is important because most folks are not going to be able to read the whole thread in an attempt at sorting that out. Another thing of extreme importance is what modifications you have done, if any to the frames before you had problems with rust, you know the kind where dealerships and Toyota use them for passing the buck?

From where I am standing, it seems that Toyota has done nothing, and it really doesn't instill any confidence that the bulk of these are made by crappy American labor, I am at the point of not buying anything that an American had a hand in on the manufacturing process, whether a gun, a a Television, or a truck, if an American had anything to do with it, its likely been poisoned....;)

06 reg cab tacoma was just inspected and told it needs a new frame and my cost will be from 500-1000 dollars. Have another post in a different thread on this. There's no way I'm paying that for a recall.

    I posed this in another thread (there are SOO MANNNY threads on this issue I wish they could be summarized with relevant posted docs and such summarized / attached - and put into a sticky? ) but in summary I had a number of emails with Corp website Cust service. Specifically I was concerned that nothing was being done and my 2012 was headed for the rust pile as well. In summary they replied ;

"....... However, since 2005 Toyota incorporated a brand new composite bed material with better impact strength than steel. It's also rust resistant and much more dent resistant than steel. In addition, the coating processes to the frame was modified to address rust issues......"

Now whether this is true, I cannot prove but I'm hoping it was not just a PR response.... (somewhere else in another thread was a new buyer asked why the later models were slightly heavier and he was told by the dealer it was due to heavier frames ???) Perhaps some one can research this for the weights of the same model through the years?

But you are right - I have not seen an official statement of responsibility, explanation, resolution for past current and future frames ....

Use the search feature for rusting frames and see what is there - you will be browsing for a long while..

I was thinking the same thing regarding a sticky....with the docs I posted yesterday & there is another member who has a parts list he posted.

The svc rep. said the frames are rotting by the catalytic a because the boxes section of the frame held air bubbles if it was dipped at an angle. Idk, sounds reasonable. But, why then does the rest of the frame have rust that is far beyond "surface rust"?!?

Yep!! On my pics there still seems to be a white residue around the corrosion. It almost looks like salt residue but it's September?!?

My bet is that it's the cheapest steel possible. I've got surveyor's stakes/pipes in my yard that are I believe are about 100 years old and constantly filled with water for days after it rains. Other than rust stains it look just fine. Coatings and rest prevention stuff is ok but it only lasts for so long and needs replacement/upkeep. Good Steel is the key.
