I just want to wait until after winter. Just got new tires specifically so I didn't have to worry about driving in snow as much. If they take my truck in during December and i get stuck with a crappy rental I think I'll go insane. Didn't have my truck most of last winter because I got hit by another driver.

I got my letter the other day but haven't had a chance to get under it yet. I've noticed a lot of rust....I've got a 2008 TRD OR DBL Cab short bed.

I definetly have rust, but is it enough. You need at least 5mm of delamination also

I thought I just had surface rust. Never noticed any holes, but after I took it in the guy got under the truck with me and showed me some pretty big holes. I think what looked to me like surface rust was really brittle and they were able to bust through it with a screw driver.

not sure. probably make you remove them before they do the work. they are charging me $200 to remove and reinstall my plate bumper. wish i had time to do it myself but i'm so busy i'm just gonna pay it and eat the charge. bastards.

Pardon my ignorance - I have no idea what exactly a plate bumper is. Is removal of a plate bumper significantly different or more laborious than removal of a standard bumper?

It's that heavy ass steel bumper he's got on the front of his truck. It's not complicated to get off, just more effort than the flimsy stock one. My old one just bolted right to the frame. It's just the Toyota stealership trying to recoup money.

no worries. it's the big steel bumper you can see on my truck in my signature. it is more laborious than taking off a regular bumper (weight, more bolts, offroad lights, aftermarket fog lights), but not by much. the charge is kind of crazy (1 hr labor to remove and 1 hr labor to replace) I think it will take them an hour total. like it said though, i am too busy these days or else i would do it myself. also i'm justifying it to myself by thinking about how i'm getting a whole new frame and components for free.

If they are charging you that for the plate bumper. I don't even want to know what they will say about the 6 inch lift... Looks like I should start collecting stock parts and dump this pos.

yeah they will screw you with the drop bracket lift. I can't even imagine what they would charge to do that work.

When I found the hole in the frame they first blamed the lift....and told me if Toyota was going to replace it I'd have to return it to stock which is bs. Was hoping to see if anyone else lifted had theirs done yet. I went and looked at f 150 and 250s over the weekend. Just wish this would get to MD so I could be done with it.

My frame has been on order for about a month now. They thought it would be in between the 17th and 20th. but as of today it's still not in. they said they have 10 customers now waiting for a frame. not worried though. I will have a loaner once it comes in.

Ah, cool... thanks for the explanation - makes sense now!

I think you have a good perspective on it - the frame is certainly a score in the grand scheme of things; however, I also think your dealer is being penny wise and dollar stupid. I think I would press them a bit to see if they would cut the charge in half. After all, the bumper is coming off to facilitate the repair of an issue with their product, not yours. But again, I totally get what you mean about it being a small cost in the big picture.
