Well dam. Good luck on the sale. Hopefully the flag Toyota put on it won't mess that up.

[IMG]2005 Double Cab w/short bed 4x4 TRD. Production date June 2004, bought December 2004. I had complained to Toyota 2 or 3 times previously about excessive rust on the frame and also filed a claim with the federal highway admin. about excessive rust. The truck was at the dealership for an oil change on Saturday and they called me into the shop area to take a look at what the tech had found. Seems like it is in the same spot as everyone else's holes. Driverside was the worst with about a golf ball size hole right next to the driver's side cat. Another smaller hole on the passenger's side about the size of a standard marble. Spoke to the service manager at great lengths about the old Tacos and he has now seen 2nd gens with perforated frames. They are elevating a claim to TMC but as it seems it looks like I will get blown off just like everyone else. I will be giving them a call myself in a couple of days to make sure that my claim has been filed. My plan is to go above the general customer service rep on the phone and speak to someone with some sort of pull but I am not holding my breath. On a side note the service manager seems to think that the frames from the 2004 model are identical except that the new ones are no longer made by Dana. He suspects that I have a Dana frame given my early production date. [IMG]

^^ that looks pretty bad. Where are you located? I hope you don't need an alignment any time soon, I doubt the tech would be able to find your alignment tabs

That's the bad thing...I need to do shocks and struts. I know the dealer was sending the info up to corp. but I am not sure how long it will take to generate in their system. I was planning on calling to follow up in a day or two. The service advisor seem confident that they will do "something" but not sure what that something is.

Just a FYI to the morons who think this is a joke and are voting just to throw the numbers off - this is to help you as well. Ive PM'd a few of you who are voting that have new trucks and your lack of a response just furthers my point. No idea why your trying to throw the numbers off, but in closing "get a life". We are actually trying to make a good thread and you idiots gotta try and ruin every single thread on this forum.

List of people who have no rust holes but want to be included anyway:

I am definitely not doing anything until I get some kind of answer from them. I did just do brake pads the other day but that was a $50 job and 10 minutes worth of time.

I think you bring up very valid points that can help the members out so I have no issues at all.

Just trying to keep this on track. Already asked the mods to help keep the derp out. 1/4 of the votes are BS so there goes that idea.

I took my own route on this one. I have a 1" hole in the drivers side just like all the others but i'm not holding my breath that Toyota does another buy back or new frame swap. I brushed everything loose from the frame, sprayed rust converter and painted with enamel. Once I get a chance I am going to remove the worst of the bad metal from the hole area and weld a plate over it. I also thinned some used motor oil and sprayed the entire frame, inside and out, front to back. Fuck it. One a good note, I got rid of the squeaky leaf spring......

Besides calling Toyota to complain, having the dealer inspect the frame and writing a report to Toyota the next best thing is to post you pictures and description on here or any website for that matter. Pictures speak louder than words

Please everyone File a report with the link above if your frame is rotting out from under you like mine is.

absolutely AMAZED about how many complaints have been filed here for the rotting frames for 2005-2006 which is all I have read so far. I just called and spoke to someone at the NHTSA to see what criteria or trending complaints need to happen in order for a formal investigation to be started. She stated that each report is reviewed and cataloged but there is no current investigation for the 2nd gen Tacos. Apparently the only course of action until Toyota makes good is legal action.

While I am sure the heat is no good for the situation...my rust problem is all over the frame. I don't think that is our smoking gun....piss poor weatherproofing and crappy steel are high on my list. The entire frame looks pretty much the same.

It can't hurt but I still think it is the piss poor frame design, steel, and weather proofing.

BTW- call the service advisor at the dealership that found the holes and they said they have still not heard back from Toyota about my truck.

Yeah I quoted both of those as well as one from FJ Forums that had the same issues when I talked to my Insurance. They refused to touch the frame and said that a frame swap was not in the cards for me. Still waiting on a call back from Toyota after I've called 4+ times.

Who have you called at Toyota? The only person I ever get to speak to is some dumb customer service rep. which repeats word for word that there is no current recall or program at this time for 2005+ tacomas. I was told by both the Toyota Customer service rep and the dealer that the regional division is the one that handles this type of thing and that they will call the dealership back since they sent the pics and report. It would be nice if there was another contact to talk to.
