LOTS of wiring, dual battery setup, Solar charging system, with some random lights spread around here and there.
That's all I got too. Called the shop manager at the dealer where I bought it and That was about it. Haven't got a hold of the national Toyota Service guys.

My brother in law's 05 with 60k just failed state inspection due to holes on either side next to the converters. He's going to be taking it to the dealer where he bought it. The dealer (different one) where I buy my OE parts has replaced frames in a few different second gens. One apparently with under 10k miles that was parked in the owner's oceanside driveway since new. Thankfully mine is fine and I've coated it thoroughly with a KB coatings kit and I'm about to do the inside with Eastwood internal frame coating. And it will get fluid filmed shortly too. I don't want to be welding patches on this one in a few years like I had to do on my 96. Oddly enough the frame on my 89 toyota truck with 200k on it that's been parked in my dirt driveway for 12 years is rock solid. Unfortunately the body isn't.

See if you can post some pics up on here. Never looks good with this amount of rust pics on 30K+ trucks.

I would take it in and have them document it...personally I think that Toyota will listen to them more with a witness report and photos versus just calling and telling them that you have holes.

Just bought a 05 PreRunner Dbl Cab SR5 149K mi. 11/16/13 Read this yesterday and then inspected my truck. Looks identical to above pics. Took truck back today and got my money back. This forum save my rear. Thank You. But also today I found a identical truck but an '07 with 66K mi and frame on it looks brand new. And was only $2K more money.

The rust in that last pic is not perforating rust. Brush it and paint it. Should be a part of your maintenance program. Yearly.

You are entiled to your opinion...plenty of other pics support my claim...I have holes in the frame if you bothered to read the thread. The rest are just supporting pics of how shifty the frame is....I never saw a scrape/wire brush/paint section in the manual....you have a page reference?

Dude, I have been on this, as well as all other threads, for rusty frames since the beginning. Yeah I have a hole near the cat too and it sucks. If you maintain your truck only by what the manual tells you, I feel sorry for you. Owning a vehicle and taking charge of maintenance goes way beyond the reading of a book. Hey, just my entitled opinion.

Glad to see they took care of you. Looks like you drew the short straw for frames with that one.

No perforation, yet, but I did find some rust on the frame last time I was rolling around under there doing maintenance. Brushed and painted it and we'll see what happens from there. Shoulda taken pictures for documentation but didn't  Will take them next time as a record to throw at Toyota if need be in the future.

Thanks, I will asking the dealer what they recommend to treat it with to keep this from happening again 8 years from now.

With past vehicles, I would always use my garden hose and spray the frame and underbody panels a couple of times on warm days during the winter to wash all the road salt and crud out and that was good enough.

The rocker panels always showed signs of rust before the frames.

I got this truck a couple of years ago so I don't know if that would have helped since it had already been through 6 or 7 Maine winters.

I think you would find more useful rust prevention info on here than you could ever gain from a dealer. But, alas, if you go the dealer route and have them do a frame coating, as well as regular inspections with this new one it will at least be documented. Possibly preventing any major headaches down the road should the new frame develop rust issues.

    Thanks.

I haven't poked around the site much lately (I'm sure there's plenty of info) but will be doing some research of rust prevention threads.

(I don't normally spend a lot of time on here but figured this was an important topic to share.)

    What do you recommend?
