Looking for locals that could point me in the right direction for modding my truck. Wanting it to handle a road course good and just be a better truck all around. I plan on doing a lightweight flywheel and solid motor mounts but may just do the t56 swap with a linked rear end. Wish I could do the irs rear but want to keep things in a reasonable price range as I go.

1 upgrade the brakes. Whatever kit you want just get something bigger than the single piston front setup. I would also do rear disk but your choice. 2nd, get either a prerunner/4x4 oil pan or a oil pan spacer from @Coupe oil starvation is not a good thing. 3, oil cooler for the engine. Those would be the minimum necessities.

I ridden in a 4-linked rear end X-Runner before. Wouldn't think it had an axle out back.

I had to do the brakes as they were almost the worst brakes I have ever used. Just a step above the 69 drum brakes on a Chevy I drove.

Yes. The tundra caliper, with the lexus isf rotor and stop teck brake lines. Wanting sway bars and coil overs all the way around. Not sure how that will work as I do carry motorcycles alot to get to the tracks. Wanting to do a track day in the x runner as I've never done a car track day.

So I have to ask how fast do you want to go? That will steer in what mods are in your best bang for buck.

I want it to be reliable and more fun to drive. When I first drove the truck I could tell it's short comings in the stock clutch. Now I just want to tighten everything up and get it to handle better, tighter motor mounts to get rid of the play in the drive train and lightweight flywheel for better response from the stock motor. As far as horse power I think it would be a turbo way down the road.
Want the biggest differences with not a huge amount of money spent. Less than 600 spent on the brakes so far and it was night and day difference. Short throw helped but I think the shifter bushing is soft and left more play than i like. Hope to do mods that won't have to be reversed with other mods.

Start prepping yourself for a headgasket replacement. The 05-06's have a older design.

Modified exhaust cam gears are a cheap mod and a good little power adder. Which will compliment all future mods.

Thank you for the heads up. I really want to keep this truck. I have always liked the x runner and am a fan of sport trucks.

An exhaust and CAI will wake the motor up quite a bit too. There are many options out there for each but URD make some really good products. I would check them out.

Literally the two most important components to get, are in this thread, for your engine. They are a MUST. Either the 4x4/PreRunner oil pans or the @Coupe oil pan spacer(easier). Then updated head gaskets. OEM, Felpro, or Cometic. (Cometic last, unless building the engine.)

The XR oil pan assembly is too shallow and well known to cause rod bearing failures with spirited driving.

I'll try to get on this as soon as I can. I tend to rev the truck out when I drive it. I thought it was made to drive that way but I might need to let off some till I can get it done. Riding motorcycles you tend to be at redline all the time or just below it.

Just make sure your oil is always at the top for, until you can upgrade.
