I guess I could sell a boat and go SAS. But then I would get sellers remorse. Sell her car and buy her a bike, she would turn into a major bitch. I'm SOL. Just gonna peice and part until the yota is dead

From what I know of the fiber form, HDPE has excellent tensile strength but cuts easily. Not sure it would bring much to the party there. I'd also think it would deform enough under load that it may get pushed in to vital parts.

Better than no skid for sure, but don't go testing your luck until you get some steel under there.

Yes it will flex some. HDPE is softer than UHMW. Both are FuckN tuff as hell. If i support it good enough, Shouldnt be any problems. Shouldn't is the magic word

Yours is longer than the current design. We discussed this.

My t-case skid took the whole weight of the truck on that and the crossmember and didn't flinch.

HDPE is the same stuff plastic grocery bags are made of. It's a petroleum product molecule used in a bajillion things now. It's super cheap to make, and very strong for a lot of applications.

Whether it's going to function effectively as a skid plate...well, I'm not a materials engineer. It might help, but it ain't steel.

Very true. I spend a lot of time with it in life-critical applications:

    http://www.mammut.ch/en/productDetail/212000440_v_1037_60_8/Contact+Slings+Dyneema®+8+mm.html

These things are 8mm wide, about the size of typical shoelaces, and have a tensile strength over 5000lbs. We use them in rock climbing/mountaineering for anchor points due to them being very lightweight and exceptionally strong.

I don't have much firsthand experience with it in plate form though.

I am gonna chalk up that dumb ass idea. Looking at local metal shops for some steel. Found what I need for $60.
